Does anyone think there may be some truth in what Trump is saying about the cure being worse than the illness.
If we take into account the long term economic problems its going to be a long road to recovery
I'm just asking the question, its not my view.

Trump is only thinking about himself. Wall Street is at it's lowest since he became President. Think of all the money he's lost personally. He would rather throw his granny under a bus than let the stock market fall and upset his rich/industry/business supporters. If he reopens the factories etc it will be the poor who suffer the most. The rich will survive at home, those who can pay for it will receive treatment in private hospitals but the poor will have to rely on the few hospitals that treat anybody. Those hospitals will soon collapse under the sheer weight of victims and people will die but it will be OK because it will be poor people dying.

He seemed to be talking about the suicides that would occur if people lost their businesses/income. I saw a Fact Check about that and it’s inconceivable that as many would kill themselves as would be killed by CV if it spreads unhindered. You’d be talking about hundreds of thousands of suicides.

Of course, really, it’s about him getting a second term in November. hmm

Nothing that comes out of that mouth is trustworthy

Trump caused the financial crash not Covid19?
Some peeeps gone stir crazy already.
Orange man bad.

I think our state governor addressed this latest Trump pivot gracefully- He said he shares the presidents frustation, that he would also like to see America quickly back on its feet economically, but he said that simply can't happen without putting the safety of the people first-

Perhaps governors will band together- 21 states thus far have lockdown type orders in place- I anticipate more will do the same- Although some may be on the same page as Trump and think this will all blow over by Easter-

Birx is weighing heavily on personal responsibility, washing of hands, staying 6 feet away from people and washing surfaces- And she's his medical talking head now ..

vampirequeen Tue 24-Mar-20 20:21:31

We've been doing that here but it wasn't enough hence we're on lockdown. The BBC said that Georgia and Alabama aren't even pushing hand washing and distancing.

vampirequeen has Mr Trump got a Granny? Do you think she might join GN ? Or is that just Fake Newshmm

CherryCezzy Tue 24-Mar-20 21:34:03

I heard Trump say this was "very, very bad" a couple of days ago and now he seems to be saying that all will be okay and back to normal quite soon. It's clear that economically it is already quite bad and that it is heading toward " very very bad" . People are losing their businesses and incomes and governments are having to step in. Currencies are struggling and the stock markets have nose dived. Yes the road to recovery will in every likelihood be a long and hard one. There appears to be a question here that is the elephant in the room: what price do you put on a life (lives) and is there a consideration as to an apparent value of some and little value of others? Who is expendable? My answer is nobody.

Happygirl79 Tue 24-Mar-20 21:52:49

He is seriously deranged
There is definitely signs of dementia there but I think he is very short tempered and his advisers are afraid of him
I wouldn't trust anything he says

Boris/Trump/all world leaders = VIPs
Us = Expendable

Welcome to the world.

ananimous Wed 25-Mar-20 10:01:09

Fasten your seat belts...

Callistemon Wed 25-Mar-20 10:24:28

Do you honestly think that world leaders, politicians, run the world unan?

ananimous Wed 25-Mar-20 10:29:05

Conspiracy zone hmm

ananimous Wed 25-Mar-20 10:30:02

They have removed "gullible" from the dictionary.

vampirequeen Wed 25-Mar-20 11:32:05

Who runs the world? Is it world leaders, the Biderbeck group, the Illuminati, the Freemasons, aliens or someone/something else?

I agree with ananimous that when push comes to shove the rich and powerful will survive and the rest of us can go whistle.

SueDonim Wed 25-Mar-20 13:25:20

Actually, my cats run the world. ?.

Well, they run this household so I don’t think running the world would phase them.

vampirequeen Wed 25-Mar-20 14:38:51

I've always been very suspicious of sheep. They stand there in the fields and on the moors pretending to be thick but really they're only biding their time and waiting for the right moment to rise up and take over the world.

VQ you should be more concerned about cows, those black and white patches are the equivalent of bar codes, and denote rank.

About 8000 people die of normal seasonal flu in the UK every year. The NHS is always saying it can't cope every winter. Nothing we haven't heard before. You can check the statistics on official websites, in fact, 2013 -14 was an especially bad year and about 13,000 died.

The world didn't close down then, are we going to do this every year now when someone gets the first cough after Christmas? .....or before Christmas, maybe it's a plot to get rid of Christmas! Now there's a new case of flu in China caused someone eating a rat, apparently. It sounds like the animals fighting back to me, and about time too, to get rid of the humans who treat them so badly.

rosecarmel Wed 25-Mar-20 14:59:38

Flu occurs over the course of a season, many can be saved when health systems aren't overwhelmed-

During a pandemic many become sick all at once, health systems become overwhelmed, including the health workers themselves, and many are unable to be saved-

rosecarmel Wed 25-Mar-20 15:00:14

Flu doesn't spread as quickly-

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Mar-20 15:03:10

Yes, this is much more infectious than flu.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Mar-20 15:35:12

I want to correct my statement 15.03

Evidence seems to suggest that the virus SARS CoV-2 causing covid-19 has the same infection rate as

SARS
Seasonal Influenza
Ebola.

The issue is that unlike flu where there are various levels of immunity in the general population, no one has any immunity against this new virus, and it has not yet been established exactly how long any immunity will be effective.

endlessstrife Wed 25-Mar-20 15:44:38

Don’t panic, Trump is always right, he said so on the news the other night. At least half the American population agree with him. So no need to worry, we’ve got our best man, president of the most successful country in the world, on the case!!! ?
