What is that twinkly thing in the sky?

Look out of your window towards Orion. Just about where Sirius should be is a twinkly thing, really bright, shining in rainbow colours.

It was there last night as well, even brighter and more rainbow-like.

What is it?

I’m afraid it’s aliens???

SueDonim Thu 26-Mar-20 20:30:51

Venus, I think.

EllanVannin Thu 26-Mar-20 20:31:29

I see it when I look out of the back kitchen window---very bright.

Eglantine21 Thu 26-Mar-20 20:34:38

Why is it all rainbow colours?

EllanVannin Thu 26-Mar-20 20:35:54

Yes, it'll be Venus, a planet.

EllanVannin Thu 26-Mar-20 20:37:08

An optical illusion makes it appear with colours.

EllanVannin Thu 26-Mar-20 20:38:44

Various gases in the atmosphere I suspect.

I think this explain it really well, if it works ?

imacmum Thu 26-Mar-20 20:46:08

I know exactly what you mean, it seems bigger and brighter then it’s ever been before. I thought it was something else but I don’t know what

tanith Thu 26-Mar-20 20:47:51

Maybe as a result of the cleaner skies due to the reduction in planes, cars etc

Eglantine21 Thu 26-Mar-20 20:50:39

I thought it was a plane at first because of the way it was flashing but it didn’t move. Then I got the binoculars and it looked crescent shaped.

Then ai thought it was a meteor ?

Then I got to the aliens.......

I can go to bed if it’s Venus?

Eglantine21 Thu 26-Mar-20 20:51:31

Wow, cleaner skies. That’s a thought!

The drop in pollution in Venice has been noticeable, apparently, so why not in the atmosphere too?

The space station went past about 8.30 was visible for 4 mins.

Last night was the birth of the new moon, Nissan/Aries.
According to our lunar calendar.
Could have something to do with it. But also lack of pollution as others have said.

MawB Fri 27-Mar-20 16:24:37

Could it have been the International Space Station??
