I can't stop cooking!!!

For some reason I am going potty cooking during this crisis.
I am able to drive out to the shops & doing shopping for more elderly neighbours so I have no lack of ingredients but why I am so baking mad I do not know. We have home made bread, cakes, biscuits, scones etc coming out of our ears & all the freezers are full.
I suspect it is a self survival instinct setting in yet I am not really worried about the situation as I am fit & healthy so would expect to get a mild dose of the lurgy anyway.
Having daily walk & our Yoga teacher is putting classes on line everyday for us to join in so nor bored either.
Maybe it is something to keep me in kitchen as being with DH 24/7 is getting a bit of a trial. I married him for life but NOT for lunch!!

Craftycat I am baking more than usual, consequently I'm eating more cakes than usual as I cannot abide waste!!!

Me too, I have cooked, 2 freezers now full. Even doing some baking which I'm not good at but I'm trying. I've made huckle duckle this morning for the first time despite having the recipe in my book for around 25 years smile. I have made 3 lemon cakes too. Quite enjoying it all actually. Now looking to see what I'm going to do next.

I made a largish fruit cake as a kind of traybake then cut it in portions and froze two thirds of it. Worked well til OH came across it in the freezer and said “Oh good - cake “ and took it out. He had his cholesterol checked during his over 70 check up and both figures are bad. Back to the drawing board!

Brunette10 I have googled huckle duckle but it comes up as something to do with horses, what is it please?

Craftycat that made me giggle

I married him for life, but NOT for lunch!

I too have been baking more, bread baps, malt loaf, biscuits. Looking now at new recipes I can try.

I usually only ever make cakes etc. when guests are coming, but I’m a bit the same at the moment. Since my barm brack (no fat, only one egg, plus I used up some GF flour) turned out rather well the other day, I’m going to make another. I have just enough dried fruit left.

Love that merlot - I’ve saved it to share!

Keep it up!! It’s so therapeutic and you can always give some to confined neighbours.

Brunette10 Sat 28-Mar-20 13:31:35

rosenoir it's a biscuit based traybake with condensed milk, syrup, marg, ginger. It's so yummy. Let me know if you require the recipe. grin

Love it merlot

I'm the same, cooking and baking like crazy and no room left in the freezer. But we are trying to make room there by eating all the ice cream that is kept for the dgc that won't be stopping by anytime soon. Of course that compounds the issue highlighted perfectly by merlot! It has crossed my mind on occasion that this must be the "eat, drink and be merry" concept. Oh well, we are enjoying for now and can diet later..

I was a can’t cook won’t cook kind of lady but the husband is now type 2 diabetic and with this virus so bought a Tom Kerridge low carb cookbook and I’m now cooking like mad but almond flour and coconut flour are really expensive.
No restaurants or takeouts is a great incentive.

rosenoir Sat 28-Mar-20 14:07:08

Yes, Brunette10 I would like the recipe please, sounds gorgeous.

merlotgran Sat 28-Mar-20 14:43:29

Just made a gf rosemary and garlic loaf.

Somebody stop me from eating it, pleeeeeeeease? grin

nannynoonoo Sat 28-Mar-20 14:46:33

I wish I had the ingredients to cook or just eating it comes to that.

I keep making soup - anything lurking in the bottom of the fridge beware you will be souped!

Callistemon Sat 28-Mar-20 15:38:37

I have another three over ripe bananas so that will be either banana cake or biscuits to make - again.

Waste not, want not.

Callistemon Sat 28-Mar-20 15:39:28

I made Scotch pancakes this morning, a bit too tinged but they should be fine.

' all the freezers are full'?
You must have a huge family.

sukie Sat 28-Mar-20 16:24:25

GabriellaG54 We have a small freezer.
