Anyone ever put important items in a safe place. Then discovered you have forgotten where you hid them lol or is it just me.

I do it frequently, standing joke in our family that come June/July one of the AC/GC will get a Christmas present discovered in one of my safe places. grin

One year I bought a quantity of stamps before postage went up. Come December I could not find them anywhere when I wanted to post Christmas cards.

When I see a really nice birthday card I think will be good for a person I buy it and put it in a safe place......can't find it when I need it and end up having to buy another one. My children find it amusing.

Before going on holiday a couple of years ago I put most of our cards in a safe place. On return, and needing the cards, I couldn’t find them despite hours of searching and we had to cancel cards, get new bus passes, etc. It was an enormous amount of trouble and I was understandably very unpopular. Last Christmas, when searching for a present I knew I had bought, I found the secreted cards.

All I can say is it’s a good thing DH’s health means we won’t be going on holiday so I won’t have to find a hiding place!

Many a time grin

For many years now one of my wooden file boxes on the shelf with the others (Bank, Car, Legal, Insurance, etc.) has been labeled A Safe Place. Small items e.g. keys, are kept in it and there is a notebook where I list the location of things hidden elsewhere. works for me.

All the time Trendynanny to a greater or lesser extent. The sad thing is that I never learn, I'm always convinced I will remember the safe place.

Oh yes, then find the card/jewelry or whatever months later.
Sadly, I'm very inventive with my safe places. Rarely twice the same [i think!]

TrendyNannie6 Sat 04-Apr-20 12:32:52

I never learn either soda pop. I think like you. And say to myself right I’m going to put it here, two weeks later or whatever, now where did I put that dam thing

TrendyNannie6 Sat 04-Apr-20 12:35:01

Maybe I should write all these safe places down on my writing pad, so n so went here, lol

Overtime I have hidden lost Australian dollars before going on holiday, which I found about 2 years later stuck at the back of a drawer in my bedroom. On that occasion I only discovered I had "lost" them whilst actually in Australia. Thank God for credit cards.
Lost stamps bought for Christmas(they were in my purse all the time)
Often lose birthday cards, usually find that they have slippped out of the top drawer and are underneath the bottom drawer. I always check there first now.
Did think a few months ago that I had lost my engagement ring. I blamed my young grandaughters as they like to play with my jewellery. Actually found it downstairs under my HiFi player. It had been lost for some time, but that only goes to show how often I dust.

Someone on here suggested taking a phone photo of where you hide things. Good idea, if only I could remember to do it!

All the time! I still can't find:

a garlic press
a small glass jug
a pair of sandals

CherryCezzy Sat 04-Apr-20 16:44:22

I'd lose that notebook Granny23 blush
I tend to lose paperwork the most often as my filing system is poor erratic at best!

So often with bought-early Christmas presents.

However it can have its advantages. One year, well after Christmas, I found a few small boxes of chocs I’d bought for various stockings, had hidden in the sideboard, and forgotten.

Dh and I were very happy that night!

Shortly after we moved house we went away for a weekend, I hid my mother’s small lockable strongbox which contained all the jewellery she had left me and also my own. I knew it was safe so put it to the back of my mind.

A couple of months later I wanted some special earrings out of it, do you think I could find it, I looked everywhere, even the loft. I had quite a few sleepless nights worrying.

Weeks later I got my sewing box out of a low shelf in a wardrobe and lo and behold the box was behind it.

I still don’t remember putting it there. I know where it is now though!

I find a worse problem with throwing things out. If you've had something for years and then have a clear out.............. a year later you start looking for it. You have a funny feeling you may have thrown it out but can't be sure. Nothing worse than looking for something you no longer have.

I put my engagement ring away cause lost stone. My husband and I went to the jewellery store to get another got back and found the ring sitting right in front of the cupboard. Xxx

All The Time.

DanniRae Sat 04-Apr-20 18:36:29

My answer is to say to Mr R "I am putting this in safe place" and show him. Hopefully one of us will remember!!

giulia Sat 04-Apr-20 20:08:01

Yes, ery often. However, I often find the lost object when seeking the NEXT object I put in a safe place and lost.

Consolation?

giulia Sat 04-Apr-20 20:09:45

Granny23 Good idea. Will copy you!

My husband and I did exactly the same thing as GrannySomerset. Had to replace all sorts of cards, bus pass etc. We were also burgled some time later and as part of the 'locking the stable door after the horse had bolted' operation, decided to have a safe installed.

Now we really have a safe place.

Chewbacca Sat 04-Apr-20 23:09:38

Happens all the time. And when I find it again, months later, I'm astounded that I could have ever forgotten where I'd put it. And so history repeats itself over and over again.....
