“the Indian in the cupboard “

I absolutely loved reading those books to my children, Lucca

Also Tom's Midnight Garden was one of my favourites as a child and my children have now read it to theirs

David Walliams writes some funny books that the boys, ( 11 and 9), in my family adore, but nothing remotely semi-classic about those!

Oh and if they're enjoying Goodnight Mr. Tom, they may like Carries' War by Nina Bawden.

My boys lovEd “the Indian in the cupboard “ by lynne Reid banks. I guess by rights it should be the Native American in the cupboard. Very well written too so not annoying for you to read. That’s the first of I think four. I just ordered a new copy, today I read bedtime stories to my GC in Sydney via FaceTime and then we all had a group virtual hug.

Oh yes Heidi Lucky. I used to read the Raold Dahl books too, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory etc. I am very keen on AA Milne also.

I loved Heidi as a child.
What about The Railway Children or Treasure Island.

I am recording me reading stories for the grandchildren and sending them over chapter by chapter for them tom listen to.
I have one family where there are children aged 4 (boy) and 7 (girl) and am reading them a precised version of Peter Pan. For the family with 9 and 11 year old boys I am reading Goodnight Mr Tom.

Any suggestions for the next book for each age group? I am looking for semi-classic children's books. They need not to rely on the illustrations.

I wondered about The Little House in the Big Wood for the little ones, or Heidi.

I am sure that there will be grans out there with some good ideas and I would be grateful for any suggestions.
