What is the worst that could happen?

Apparently GNHQ are presently finding it difficult to moderate the site. So I wondered worst case scenario what would happen if we were left without moderation for a bit? Would we degenerate and become worse than Mumsnet? Or would we simply continue as we are with just a bit more bite to some of the discussions?

Maybe many Grans would just leave the site altogether? GN needs as many as poss so they can tell potential buyers of advertising space that they have a good market here. Fewer active posters a less attractive market for sales.
Recently, GN has been horrible. I'm not on it nearly as often as I used to be. I can see the moderators problem.

There would be flouncing.....

I am sure we could cope without moderation we manage in our real lives without being told what we can and cannot say?

Just to put you straight there, Trisher grin we're not going anywhere just yet.
Moderation isn't easy at the best of times. It's inevitable that -someone- will think you've made the wrong decision. But it's clear tensions are higher than usual and we really want to continue to be a place of support and useful discussion rather than mean-spirited arguments. Don't worry too much about us at HQ - we're carrying on. As everyone is these days. smile

Well said GrannyGravy13

We manage without moderation in our real lives because very few people would speak publicly in the way some, a very few, do on here.

Thank you Lara good to know.

Not sure about that from the number of threads that are long tearful stories of fallings out from what A said to B and B then did and A then did and B said etc etc.

I think a lot of people could do with moderation in real life as well.

trisher Wed 08-Apr-20 16:04:27

Do you think Lara &co would be interested in the job? (Sorry GNHQ I'm having a silly day!!) grin

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 08-Apr-20 16:22:37

We are prepared to moderate anything. Aside from gin obviously. And chocolate hobnobs. grin

This makes no sense, MN is pretty heavily monitored and moderate. There are several celebs who cannot be discussed on there etc.

I think if the site was "abandonned" other than posters we would prob get fed up of all the spam.

I do wish it didnt take DAYS for GNHQ to respond to welfare concerns though

But LaraGransnet, what is your stance on savoury snacks for those of us (just me, then?) who don't eat the sweet stuff or drink spirits? How about olives and wine f'rinstance? These are the Important Questions of the Daywink

M0nica Wed 08-Apr-20 17:06:47

Alishka A good plate of English cheeses would do for me. Quite happy not to have the wine.

trisher Wed 08-Apr-20 17:34:19

As it's my thread can I please have everything? (and a few French cheeses as well)

In Holland, certain roads had all their markings and signage removed to see how traffic flowed. All the rules of the road were still adhered to by the users.
I imaging much the same would happen on GN should moderators leave us to our own devices.

I work in customer insight and often run focus groups.
There is always one loud mouth who wants to grab a the attention and influence other respondents.
They run out of steam eventually but spoil the experience for others.
This forum is pretty much the same.
