Anyone else having vivid nightmares?

I've started having the most horrendously vivid nightmares shock. I know it's down to the situation we're all living through currently, not sleeping well, napping in the daytime etc., but anyone else?

H1954 Thu 09-Apr-20 00:08:17

Yes, I am having weird dreams too. They're not always scarey or on the nightmare scale but really weird! I'm not sleeping properly either, anyone else having that problem? I've already been to bed, can't settle and decided to get up again, this happens quite often too!

Chewbacca Thu 09-Apr-20 00:14:17

Oh yes H1954 I recognise that only too well. Fall asleep fast enough and then the weird dream jolts me wide awake and I can't get back to sleep for a few hours. It's a nightmare see what I did there. when you have to be up for work the next morning.

J52;
" Not nightmares, but a couple of nights ago I dreamt that we were all issued with rainbow fluffy toys that were mechanical, rather like Furbies!"

Propaganda innit.

I woke this morning to hear my OH's voice calling my name. Clear as a bell; definitely his voice. He died in February - make of this what you will. Please do not come on here and tell me he is calling me to join him - life is already bad enough!

I realise that these things sometimes happen in the moment before waking when you are betwixt and between. Bizarre.

Yes but always have vivid dreams/ nightmares in periods of high anxiety. It’s happened at other bad time’s in my life. It’s very disorientating waking up in the middle of the night when you live alone. I do manage to calm myself back down . Often put the light on and read. If it’s near getting up time I do sometimes remember a lot of it.

Thought it was just me but I'm the same as you Chewbacca.
Fall asleep easy enough and then jolted awake in the middle of the night by a nightmare, with my heart pounding and perspiring.
One the other night was so so scary I was afraid to fall asleep again. I was in a large suitcase ? and more and more people were squeezing in, until I was pushed up to the roof and trying to keep a little space in front of me to breathe.
Makes me tired and out of sorts the next day.

Another one early this morning and definitely a self-isolating dream as DH and I were on a beach, which could have been a favourite one featured in Maggie Cole on TV last night, then we got cut off by the tide, had to scramble up some sand dunes, although there aren't sand dunes on that beach. We're marooned on an island.

? we need a boat

As I have already suggested on a previous post, the readers of which that were not impressed as it was not lighthearted.

Suppose we have now been given the opportunity to look within and reassess our priorities in life? On Gransnet our families are hugely important but so are WE.

Looking at what are known as the 'simple' things of life, maybe these are actually more important than 'keeping up with the Jones', fantastic clothes, the latest furniture and all those electronic 'toys'.

Or am being too philosophical, heavy and boring?

I dreamed last night that I had contracted the virus; I was terrified, and woke up coughing and hot, and felt in that split second that I truly had it in reality. A drink of water, a calming five minutes looking out at the night sky by the open window, feeling grateful that I hadn't. We are all in an unreal world; those of us retired are probably better prepared than most as we are home based and not now in a pattern of early rising and travelling like the majority of the working population. It must be so strange for them as life has changed completely.

I keep dreaming that I've left my grandchildren alone somewhere, such as in the car, or at my house when I'm out. I look after them most days and so I'm finding this very hard.

I always do have vivid dreams not every night but every few weeks, the family call it my self preservation, have done for years, as often things happen withing 24 hours of me having one of my dreams.

I sympathise as I’ve had those. It’s very unsettling and have to phone all of family just to hear their voice. Try an app called Calm. It’s pretty good.

I used to have bad nightmares (o.k. are there good nightmares)
then I got some Dream catchers,, in both bedrooms.

honestly, not had one since!

I have had a few weird dreams. No doubt the strange worrying situation, and also another issue that is causing me anxiety at the moment, related to my daughter. I have been very stressed lately. The other night I dreamed that I was going round a supermarket trying to pick up a few items, and people weren't staying 2 metres away. They were all crowding round me and leaning across me, even coughing, and I was trying to keep my distance, but then I couldn't reach the items on the shelves. I woke up feeling extremely stressed.

I dreamt I went to a friend's house to help with a nativity scene. There were life sized cradles in their living room, all with still figures in except one smaller one that had a baby in it struggling to breath and holding it's hands out towards me. I tentatively held the baby's hands and it seemed to calm it down. My friend wasn't present just her husband who said she was upstairs. Quite disturbing.

I always dream so vividly every night that sometimes I wake up tired out! I have the weirdest dreams about things and people from years ago.

I once met a man at an airport (trying to con my lovely but gullible husband) and he told me I think too much at night! Think he must have been right!

NannyG123 Thu 09-Apr-20 10:59:44

Can't remember nightmares but keep waking up at about 3.30, for about an hour then dropping off again until about 6.30. It's weird the things I think about at 3.30 in the morning.

When I was full time working I used to get really horrible, vivid dreams every night of my holidays and then once back at work again they stopped. Always thought it was something to do with my mind not being busy during the day. This stopped happening once I stopped full time work.

mokryna Thu 09-Apr-20 11:12:17

Yes, having a lot of disturbed nights but make the effort not to sleep during the day. However, I had the same problem in the 80s, what to do in the case of the bomb

Joesoap Thu 09-Apr-20 11:22:23

No nightmares, but more vivid dreams than usual, when I eventually get to sleep.

sarahanew Thu 09-Apr-20 11:30:35

Rainbows and fluffy toys - that's because people have been painting rainbows and putting them in their windows to say thank you to carers and Teddy bears in windows for children going on a bear hunt on their daily walks!

Sadgrandma Thu 09-Apr-20 11:35:49

I am just hoping that I will wake up one morning soon to find that this whole situation was just a horrible dream!

GagaJo Thu 09-Apr-20 11:37:18

No, because I do all my worrying while awake. It was the same when I had cancer. So stressed while awake, that my subconscious had no work left to do.

Not sure if that is a good thing or not.

Nannan2 Thu 09-Apr-20 11:38:56

Ive always had very vivid dreamshmm

GreenGran78 Thu 09-Apr-20 11:45:32

I am a very calm person, and always have the attitude that everything will be ok.
I haven’t had any nightmares, but often dream, recently, that I am trying to get somewhere, but I never know where. In my dream I wander the streets endlessly, not knowing where I am. Obviously it is either related to the wondering of where and when this situation will end. Perhaps, also, the lack of opportunity to go for walks with the freedom that we used to have.
