Anyone else find they dislike some very popular tv programmes/ stars? Eg I can’t bear Mel and Sue( not funny) call the Midwife, larkrise to candleford, (too twee)

Teetime Wed 15-Apr-20 09:45:54

Ant and Dec
Mrs Brown
Call the Midwife
Good Karma Hospital
Game shows

there are more but that's enough for now!! grin

GabriellaG54 Wed 15-Apr-20 09:47:17

Me too. Dislike those plus soaps, reality shows (not Strictly) Graham Norton and most comedy rubbish and anything with that annoying and instantly forgettable grey nobody...Alexander ? ... Pointless.
Too many to mention, I'd be here all day.

boheminan Wed 15-Apr-20 09:48:15

Game of Thrones
Mrs Brown
Fleabag

GabriellaG54 Wed 15-Apr-20 09:49:08

Plus all Teetime's and probably 90% of everyone else's picks too. All tret.

GabriellaG54 Wed 15-Apr-20 09:50:52

...and First Dates ...??

Grannybags Wed 15-Apr-20 09:51:20

All of the above plus Casualty, Holby City etc

shysal Wed 15-Apr-20 09:54:04

Can't say I have ever watched them, but don't think they are my thing:
The Office
Friends
Cold Feet
Gavin and Stacey
Anything with Jonathon Ross
Mrs Brown
Dad's Army

Artdecogran Wed 15-Apr-20 09:54:35

Absolutely. Love Mrs Brown but despise Dawn French and anything she’s in. Ditto Eamonn Holmes and his awful wife.

jenpax Wed 15-Apr-20 09:54:49

Can’t stand Strictly, or any game shows don’t like Bake off or Apprentice or Love Island also don’t like Mrs Browns Boys

Gaunt47 Wed 15-Apr-20 09:54:50

Thank you very much Lucca for starting this thread!
I have been on the outside of so many conversations between friends discussing popular TV programmes. I've been embarrassed to confess that I hadn't watched, or had endured 5 minutes then switched off, so I kept quiet.
This is the opportunity for me to confess, except I can't remember the titles of these shows smile

Boz Wed 15-Apr-20 10:01:40

We had lunch with some friends who were all geared up for discussion on favourite tv programmes. Everyone they mentioned we didn't watch. I think we shocked them!
They were;
Last Tango in Halifax
Strictly come D,
Holby City
Casualty
Oh, and The Archers.

To be fair, they shocked us by never watching Scandi Noir or Documentaries.

Some years ago now I decided that I was watching less and less TV just only watched those programmes I was really interested in. It had got into a habit to put the TV on and just sit there watching.
So the TV was boxed up for a few months to see if it was missed, was it missed? yes slightly but it was obvious I only did watch it because it was there.
Now I have been a TV free zone for a very long time and even on holiday I rarely switch it on.
Getting rid of the computer ah well thats a whole different story........

Lucca Wed 15-Apr-20 10:10:29

Forgot Mrs browns boys, horrendous.
I watch strictly on record to see the dance and the dresses and see the score. Can’t be doing with Tess daly..... wouldn’t watch I’m a celebrity if you paid me.

Love Line of Duty, Happy Valley and ....weirdly....great British sewing bee even though I can’t sew but there’s something very gentle and quirky about it.

Lucca Wed 15-Apr-20 10:11:17

Yorkie2. I admire you for that.
I have a friend who did the same years ago.

morethan2 Wed 15-Apr-20 10:13:05

The programme last evening with Gregg Wallace was IMO dire. If he shouted Woooow I’d have put my foot through the TV, anything with Gordon Ramsey. I’m not keen on home improvement programs, our girl, Holby, casualty, all of the soaps I could go on and on and on but I’d bore you rigid.

GagaJo Wed 15-Apr-20 10:15:43

I hated most of the above other than Fleabag and Cold Feet.

Mrs. Brown's Boys in particular makes me want to gag.

I HAVE just watched all of Last Tango in Halifax. I think I grew into it. First time round, I hated it. Last series was bad though. To be honest, they'd all just got too old, even Sarah Lancashire, who I usually love in anything.

I watched all of The Nest but didn't love it.

I'm hoping the new series of Killing Eve will be OK. Loved the first, the second was a let down.

vampirequeen Wed 15-Apr-20 10:19:42

Everything above except Dad's Army which I love.

Wimbledon

Eloethan Wed 15-Apr-20 11:42:46

shysal You might find you like some of the programmes you list if you give them a chance.

I must admit, I've sometimes made the decision with films that I won't like them and haven't bothered to watch them. I decided, after seeing a spoof of it by French and Saunders which was very funny, that I would hate the film The Piano. But when I actually saw it many years later, I enjoyed it. Ditto Castaway - what could be more boring than one man marooned on an island? But when I eventually watched it, I loved it.

I watched Gavin and Stacey for the first time the other day and didn't like it much - don't think I will bother again,

Ditto Mrs Brown's Boys

On the other hand, though some of the the humour in the first series of Fleabag was way beyond my comfort zone, I enjoyed it nevertheless.

Lucca I love the Sewing Bee too and it is the last thing I would imagine myself enjoying. I was useless at sewing at school and had no interest at all in dressmaking.

ninathenana Wed 15-Apr-20 11:55:37

Apprentice
Love Island or anything remotely similar
Mrs. Brown
Never seen Game of Thrones, or Fleabag.
DH and I enjoy most crime drama also documentaries. He loves his gardening programmes and I love Holby. I gave up on Corrie and 'Enders ages ago.

sodapop Wed 15-Apr-20 12:04:35

To go against the flow, I watch Corrie, Emmerdale and Enders. I like medical and crime dramas. I also like wild life programmes.
I dislike reality shows, Greg Wallace and Tim Wonnacott.

Lucca Wed 15-Apr-20 12:11:35

Sodapop, that’s the idea of this thread , thought it might be fun to get a dispute going that didn’t involve politics!

Artdecogran Wed 15-Apr-20 13:23:32

Luca, love the thread so much coming back for seconds. Love Father Brown, wish they would make more instead of giving us 2 weeks worth at a time. Used to like Midsomer Murders but not now. You never know whether you’re getting the latest or a repeat.

SalsaQueen Wed 15-Apr-20 13:46:10

All reality shows (I'm a Celebrity, Strictly, Made in Essex, etc)
Mrs Brown's Boys - dire.
Casualty - where the actors are paid more than real-life nhs workers.
Any period drama.
All soaps.
Cookery programmes - too many of them.

I watch very few programmes, but I do like the wildlife/animal ones.

grannysyb Wed 15-Apr-20 13:55:20

Cant bear Greg Wallace, know as " geezer" in our house, we won't watch anything with him in. Also Jonathan Ross, Jeremy Clarkson, a bunch of big heads. Really looking forward to the Great British Sewing Bee!
