Quick afternoon question, what is the most annoying advert you've ever seen?

For me it's the CompareTheMarket adverts. Can't stand those meerkats.

GabriellaG54 Fri 17-Apr-20 16:36:23

Yeah...me too ??

TrendyNannie6 Fri 17-Apr-20 16:39:51

Well for me it’s that stupid perf the surf or perf with surf, whatever it is, lol

fourormore Fri 17-Apr-20 16:47:58

I love the meerkats BabyPink but I know several people who don't!
I am finding many current adverts really annoying during this time of self isolation.
Do we really need to know about life insurance and over 50's plans so that our children can pay for our funerals; or that there are actual funeral plans for even if you don't want a funeral (!) with that stupid woman saying "Ohh Daaaad!"
I'm not planning on dying yet!
Bingo and other gambling ads also do my head in as I fear some could easily get addicted in these days of solitude - the 'be gamble aware' bit isn't enough to stop that when folks are feeling low.
Add to those all the bladder leak underwear that is 'actually pretty' - strange idea of the meaning of the word pretty!
Before folks jump and say they are memorable - they're not because the mute button on the remote is activated grin
Bet you wish you hadn't asked now haha!!! gringringrin

I don’t know if it’s the most annoying advert I’ve ever seen because I can barely remember what I had for breakfast these days, but the ones that really irritate me at the moment are:

The Always sanitary towel advert with Heather Watson wittering about how ‘some people think women should only be soft and delicate’ (do they?? It’s 2020!) There’s no way she wears white tennis knickers, a tiny skirt and a sanitary towel at a major tennis tournament.

The one for Tena Lady with women writhing about in the undies on a bed.

The Viagra one with that incredibly annoying couple dancing downstairs.

There’s loads more I’m sure.

TrendyNannie6 Fri 17-Apr-20 16:50:21

Oh and vagisil, although Thankyou I haven’t seen it for a while

Alexa Fri 17-Apr-20 17:23:20

Any ad with people jumping about maniacally dancing and laughing.

BlueSky Fri 17-Apr-20 17:25:19

Yes the usual cringeworthy ones! Tena Lady, Always (Period or weak bladder ones) Vagisil. Can't wait for them to finish especially when you have visitors!

Oopsminty Fri 17-Apr-20 17:26:54

The old bloke with the stair lift going up and down, fetching his granddaughter's bunny and teddy at bedtime.

I'd be telling her to go and get it herself

Maybe I'm just a mean grandma!

I’m not a big telly watcher, but I think ads in England are different from Scottish ones. I’ve been watching Come Dine With Me on All4, and it’s sponsored by Galbani, who have one of the most annoying ads ever!

SirChenjin Fri 17-Apr-20 18:03:19

I think you’re right Daddima. I suspect there’s probably regional differences as well.

NotTooOld Fri 17-Apr-20 18:05:59

Lots of annoying ones but the one I hate the most is the toothpaste ad with the annoying young woman in the exercise class who doesn't know how to keep her mouth really clean.

SalsaQueen Fri 17-Apr-20 18:16:16

Oopsminty I hate that one, too. The kid looks about 12. Sentimental nonsense.

Artdecogran Fri 17-Apr-20 18:17:18

It’s not really an advert as such but the bride dress one with that annoying bloke, having a dressgasm. I mean REALLY, having an orgasm over a dress!!!! Bit messy if you ask me.?

Chardy Fri 17-Apr-20 19:16:42

I find with irritating (especially patronising) ads, I really would have to be desperate to buy their product.

Mollygo Sun 19-Apr-20 09:30:28

Sick to death of vaginal dryness/erectile dysfunction, foolproof Tampax, life insurance and creative cremations adverts. I never watched afternoon TV before lockdown, but a few afternoons of those ads persuaded me not to watch any more. BBC or Catch-up TV might help.

Esmerelda Sun 19-Apr-20 09:35:54

? fourormore that could have been me speaking (and I snort with derision every time I hear that stupid "actually pretty" ad!).

Shropshirelass Sun 19-Apr-20 09:39:21

All the online bingo and associates games. Really sensible to put these on when people are stuck at home, getting 80% of their wages and boredom setting in. Arrgghh!

Witzend Sun 19-Apr-20 09:40:52

Most of them, TBH, which is why we mostly watch on catch up and zoom through them.
Worst of all IMO are the umpteen equity release/funeral plan ones - whoever makes them seems to think the target market has a mental age of about 8, or else is three-quarters senile already.

Scottiebear Sun 19-Apr-20 09:40:56

The bingo ones are appalling.

Esmerelda Sun 19-Apr-20 09:41:23

Yes NotTooOld, I forgot that ridiculous toothpaste ad ... well, any toothpaste ad really. And Chardy is right! Don't these companies realise they are paying for negative advertising that is just antagonizing their supposed target audience?

Glorybee Sun 19-Apr-20 09:41:46

We don’t tend to see many ads, or rather hear them, as they get muted. There was one on recently which was quite red, so maybe for Vodafone, which a seal in someone’s living room. Why? (a rhetorical question, I’m not really interested!).

Scottiebear Sun 19-Apr-20 09:44:49

The one with the sanitary pad sitting on a womans hand. It is apparently very thin. It may be thin, but they fail to mention it looks as long as a surf board.

ecci53 Sun 19-Apr-20 09:46:06

All of them but 2 things in particular: one is the money supermarket ads with the man in high heels, and also all the ads that reference old films, for example, I saw one the other day that was clearly aimed at young people but referenced the film Shaft which few of them would know. I fond I remember the annoying bits but rarely remember what the product being advertised is. The money supermarket one is an exception and I would never use them as I hate their ads so much.

polnan Sun 19-Apr-20 09:48:30

very few of the adverts, imo, should not be removed/banned

the chairs that help you to get up and down,, such young looking and able bodied people showing them!! oh my!

all adverts, well very few are any good..

and the cost.... who pays for this rubbish!! rhetorical question, we all know who pays
