Saturday morning post deliverys to STOP

well I think we should still get deliveries Have you seen the cost of postage??? So first class posted Friday would be lucky to arrive Monday? Why does the virus stop delivery? Wish there was a good alternative. Hermes etc are ok for parcels but letters (I do competitions/crosswords) need the post. Fed up Banks don't want us in "essential only" shops the same. Wait until all over when they are begging us to come in with 2 for 1 offers etc.

Oh I'm glad my birthday was 2 Saturdays ago. I didn't get any mail on the day anyway. All cards were sent well in advance by family and friends. Very little comes on Saturday anyway.

I remember two postal deliveries a day and if you posted local in the morning it reached its destination in the afternoon. For a penny.

I miss my postie as he moved when his wife was offered a promotion but it meant moving to Berks.

We've noticed we've not had a daily delivery for a number of weeks but understand completely it's to do with supporting staffing resourcing etc so not jumping up and down about it. As we seem to be getting an alternate day delivery and that works well enough, it would make sense for that to be standard practice until things sort themselves out. Anyway, it makes the anticipation of receiving expected nice things all the more enjoyable!

Why does the virus stop delivery?
Well Jane if you stop and think - there may be staff off sick/quarantining; social distancing at work will surely have affected working conditions including the space available for staff ; transport to and from work may be harder and again social distancing may well have added to the time involved in the actual delivery at your door.
Enough reasons for you?

It sounds like some people are getting regular deliveries. We are getting once a week here, although one week we had Mon, wed and Fri. We waited nearly 2 weeks once. Seems round here it depends if you're postie is off work or not and if so you rarely get a delivery. When we get post it's about 20 - 30 items as we get a lot. It's a bit frustrating as we've had a covid death of m-i- law (in care home) which was very difficult and still awaiting death certificate ( had to register over phone) for death over 3 weeks ago. Still we will get there in the end but sad to say that we are only posting stuff if essential and phoning or emailing instead if at all possible.

Although it's supposed to be only during Lockdown, I reckon it will continue! just another kickback!

Our postmen are great as are our refuse collectors & garden waste people.
Funnily enough I was just coming in from Waitrose 10 mins ago- shopping for a neighbour & they were taking the garden waste. I stopped & thanked them & said how much we appreciate them carrying on working. They were really pleased & said it was so nice to know they are appreciated.
One small gesture did a lot of good.

sorry MawB no, they need to reduce the postage cost then if they are not giving us a full service. The same applies to the BBC who think it is ok to stuff loads of repeats but not offer a discount.

It's because of the current situation Lollin the amount of post has increased.

Have to think of the postal workers. So not a problem for me.

The Saturday delivers will continue for parcels, packets and any recorded post. Saturday post will be delivered the following week. There are a lot of people of sick which puts pressure on the others to deliver the post and they have been told they won't get overtime pay if they work over their time to deliver everything on their round.

I have no expectations {hmm]where I live when it comes to postal deliveries.Gave that up years ago.

This is surely no great problem for most of us? I would imagine that the bottleneck, so to speak, is at the local sorting office where safe distancing must be slowing things down. Speaking personally, we get post most, if not all days, and very much appreciate our hard working and cheerful posties.

I was really impressed by the deliveries at Easter. I posted my cards rather late so expected them not to get there on time, but my daughter received hers on Good Friday - next day - and my son and daughter in law got theirs on the Saturday. I was very surprised there was a delivery on a bank holiday but that was in Glasgow so maybe Scotland has different system than England. I know the posties are working incredibly hard at present so lets hope it isn't a sign of job losses to come in the future. I get very little mail these days so don't expect it to make much difference to me unless my birthday falls on a Saturday. |It just means my kids will need to be more organised!

If they do it to cut staff and wages because they’re losing money ok but then don’t let me read the bosses are walking off with ginormous bonuses and pension pots !!!! Sick of those at the top abusing their position !

We lived in Ireland for 9 years and never had lost in a Saturday - kind of got used to it

Don’t we all still send birthday cards and presents? They wil have to be posted a week early to arrive in time.
The postal service is already very poor. Collections in my area are once daily, very early. Our Post Office has been closed for a month and opened only erratically for months before that.
In the 19th century you could receive a letter, send a reply and get a further reply all within one day.
