Testing delays

This is from a friend of mine. So not hearsay.

“So I had some symptoms this week and dutifully went off to ........... to get tested. The wait for a result is 48 hours they say. Already a problem with delaying starting contact tracing.
After 48 hours I phoned to ask where my result was and got told there is a backlog and it will be 7 to 10 days.
A few hours later having thought about it more I phoned back and asked again and was given the answer by someone else that the delay is 10 to 14 days- they are struggling with the backlog, they said.

Now testing and tracing is not rolled out yet but the backlog means we are far far away from any kind of test and trace system.

I am not sure if this is good or bad but I then told them I was a doctor and was concerned about contact tracing. I got my result within 5 minutes by text. “

On our regional news programme last night, one nurse was waiting for a fortnight for results, another person was tested on Wednesday, got result Friday.

Seems to vary such a lot.

There doesn't seem to be a system in place.
Is there groups of people who will be tested first?

My Daughter is a Community Children’s Nurse and has volunteered for testing or swabbing as she calls it, she has been doing it for about 3 weeks now.
She has been testing Residents in Care Homes and at the Drive through ones, set up in Council car parks which are mainly for NHS workers.
I don’t talk to her much about it as she is tired out, trying to keep up with her other Childrens Nurse job online and working days and weekends testing but it seems these are the groups being tested first.

I had a test at 7:30pm last Friday. I got the result at approx 9:30pm on Saturday.

My husband was hailed by a man in a car this morning asking if he was in the correct car park. He was. Apparently he'd booked a test for that time, driven there, only to find that there was no test unit anywhere to be seen.

How long do you think it takes to get a result?

Goodness me, do you expect instant results?

I had a test two weeks ago and was told 48 to 72 hours for the result. I chased it on day 10 and got an email and a text on day 14 saying that it was unclear and I needed to book a retest, which I had today. I hope it's not another two week wait

Honestly! I can’t believe people are moaning about the speed of getting test results when my Daughter is testing (swabbing) on top of her normal Nursing Job, working extra days and weekends and is absolutely shattered.
Do you think that the NHS had nurses waiting to do these tests when this virus hit?
No! All the the NHS was working at full capacity.
Nurses like my daughter have been asked to volunteer as well as keeping their normal work up.
My Daughter is putting herself in some danger by testing and is absolutely shattered.
My Granddaughters are both working at AstraZenica Labs, checking the tests, while trying to complete their Dissertations for their Masters in Chemistry and Biology. They also come home weary, each tray of 96 samples takes approx 2 hours, the tests are delivered by the military.
These people, the Nurses swabbing, the scientists checking the tests have all had to be found from somewhere.
I just don’t think people realise that!
Sorry for rant!

Buffybes yes, people expect instant results and it is just not possible.

I was contacted by email on Tuesday to do a volunteer test linked to the app.
Sent for home test Tuesday evening. It arrived Wednesday lunch time. Booked return collection for Thursday. Did test, collected 9.30 am on Thursday. Result 11.45am today by text.
Negative result. Nothing to moan at.
Thanks to all those involved from me!
