Having conversation with friend this morning she was asking me, how often do I vacuum, and was I doing it more since lockdown or less, I’d say it’s the same, I don’t go into every room every day no, but I do vacuum downstairs everyday and clean my floors, she was saying she vacuums once a week, she has no pets so no flurries of pet hair,

No I don't! My flat gets vacuumed when it needs it, and only then.

Bellasnana Sun 17-May-20 10:31:48

Every day, sometimes twice as I have the hairiest dog on earth!
Even after brushing him he still sheds hair like you wouldn’t believe.?

No! I vacuum when needed and not often. Vacuuming even less in lockdown.

Charleygirl5 Sun 17-May-20 10:34:31

No, I would not wish to wear out my hoover

I vacuum twice a week, but in between I have Dyson cordless handheld gadgets - 1 upstairs, 1 down, to pick up crumbs, cat hair, bits that drop off shoes onto the doormat and bits blown in if the doors are open.
Also I dust without polish daily with a Lakeland glove thingy. ?

No, when it looks like it needs it, I have a small long handled brush and pan that I sweep crumbs up with in the kitchen. As Charleygirl says don’t want to wear out my expensive Dyson. ??

I consider myself reasonably fastidious but every day...... NO.

Sparklefizz Sun 17-May-20 11:05:49

Charleygirl No, I would not wish to wear out my hoover

Love it! My sentiments exactly! smile

I have acquired a wee robot hoover, who goes walk about 2 or 3 times a week and can be contained in one room by simply shutting the door/s, if only that room needs a clean up.

When I empty his dust tray and filter, it is full of silver blonde hair. Me being the only resident, with neither cat nor dog, I can only conclude that I will soon be bald.

My vacuum sometimes doesn't make it back to the utility room between uses.I have two cats one with beautiful long silken WHITE hair you can see where she walks by the hair trail .Normally I have the GC a lot too so double trouble .

BlueBelle Sun 17-May-20 11:15:37

Do I what ???
tanith I have the sane rules as you.... when it looks necessary

Charleygirl5 Sun 17-May-20 11:15:48

Those of us who do not want to wear out our hoovers are also saving on electricity. Every little counts.

Squiffy Sun 17-May-20 11:19:54

Every day???!!! Sounds like cruelty to hoovers to me!

jude2006 Sun 17-May-20 11:27:00

Yes, I love hoovering, downstairs is done every day and upstairs once or twice a week!
My husband and son say they will bury me with my hoover!!!

About 3 times a week removing cat and dog hairs where they have left their presence known.I have never known a place that has so many cobwebs as my bungalow they spring up overnight its unbelievable sometimes where they come from ? thank goodness for my long extention.

Tweedle24 Sun 17-May-20 11:31:35

Every couple of days; more if cats have been play fighting leaving clumps of black and tortoiseshell fur on the carpets.

Witzend Sun 17-May-20 11:32:48

Maybe once a week, whether it needs it or not. ?
Was def. a lot more often when we had a cat and a dog, both now RIP.
But nearly always just before any guests are due,, so I can pretend the house always looks like that.

For the odd few bits I have a lovely old-fashioned Ewbank - very efficient for a quick pick-up without all the faff of getting the hoover out. A friend was going to chuck it - I gave it a new and loving home.

I have to choose the time when the cats are outside as they don't like the hoover one bit.
It must seem like a monster when they see its lights coming towards them, which means that I don't hoover every day. When the weather's really fine the cats will be out sitting in the sun so it's then that I get really cracking.

Maybe next week when we're promised good weather I might even move things instead of hoovering around them.smile

At least every other day, due to the muck of DGS. When I lived here on my own, it was more like once a week. I don't make a lot of mess.

Love him but I DO miss the tidy tranquil house I used to have! However, it'll be back all too soon when he grows so I try to ignore the mess most of the time.

Tangerine Sun 17-May-20 11:35:53

Once a week but I do use a carpet sweeper after about three days. A lot depends on the colour of your carpets and the type of flooring you have generally. Also, having pets or young children may make a difference.

It doesn't do carpets much good to keep going over them with a vacuum cleaner.

Our dog used to hide behind the sofa when I was vacuuming. and bark at it if it dared to come too near. I think she’d have liked to do battle with it and kill it, but was alas too much of a scaredy-dog. She once hid behind the sofa when a dd’s friend brought his house-rabbit for a visit!

I vacuum when I think the floors need it.

We live quite happily with cat hair, though I do regularly brush said cat.
