What do you think of Boris’s response to the Dominic Cummings debacle? I feel really upset that I’ve spent 10 weeks in lockdown missing birthdays of my grandson, my son and my daughter-in-law. I feel like throwing it all in tomorrow and inviting everyone round for a bbq with it being Bank Holiday. I know I’m not alone in cancelling every event in my diary since March but why can Dominic Cummings break the rules and get away with it?

Its his sheer arrogance that is making me extremely angry.

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, he absolutely does not believe he's done anything wrong.

I don't think he will resign but I do sincerely hope he will be 'forced out'.

Wibby Sun 24-May-20 19:23:50

Does it really matter?? if he is stupid enough to risk his own health as well as his family thats up to him. Likewise with anyone else acting the same way, let them get on with it.
We are all missing birthdays and our family and friends and no matter how we feel we have to get on with it and not risk our health or our family and friends just because some idiot has done so.

Gingster Sun 24-May-20 19:24:46

No apologies . This won’t do Boris any favours. He should sack him immediately

Alexa Sun 24-May-20 19:27:37

Mr Johnson said that Mr Cummings was obeying his instinct as a parent. This does not excuse Mr Cummings for putting aside his instinct as ordinary people have to do regarding their children and other loved ones.

If everyone disobeyed lockdown isolation of covid sufferers and their contacts no testing, tracing and isolation program would be possible.

Ilovecheese Sun 24-May-20 19:27:57

Boris Johnson's response was an insult to those of us who have been following the rules in order to save lives. He basically told us that we had no need, we should have just followed our instincts like his puppet master.

Pittcity Sun 24-May-20 19:28:28

Cummings holds all the cards. If the government doesn't protect him he will dish the dirt and bring them down.
The Civil Servant who sent an official tweet calling them "twisted people" will certainly be sacked!

Ilovecheese Sun 24-May-20 19:29:46

Alexa it probably will not be possible now that we have all been given permission to ignore the guidelines as long as we follow our instincts.

Nanof6 Sun 24-May-20 19:36:03

Couldn’t agree more ‘oldernewgranny’ I feel as if all the sacrifices everybody has made have been throw back in our faces. This dreadful man ( you choose which one) has unbelievable arrogance and should go.

Littleannie Sun 24-May-20 19:37:14

Wasn't it George Orwell in Animal Farm, who said "everybody is equal but some are more equal than others"?

Gaunt47 Sun 24-May-20 19:41:23

Ilovecheese you're right - Cummings and BoJo have effectively given us permission to go and see our families, and I think we should all now do so.
The perception that this would be illegal is wrong, and should not concern anybody.
What is bugging me about all the discussion and questions about Cummings in the media, nobody is asking serious questions about how the country is to get back on track and function properly.

Much more on the the thread “will he resign”. On this subject.

One member of the government described Mr Johnson’s press conference as “an utter shambles that will do little to settle the febrile mood among MPs and the public.”

The prime minister’s statement was criticised in a post on the official Twitter account of the UK Civil Service. An anonymous mandarin wrote “arrogant and offensive. Can you imagine having to work with these truth twisters?” The tweet was deleted after 10 minutes.

Mike Barton, the former chief constable of Durham Police, said it was clear Mr Cummings had broken the rules and added he could not think of a “worse example of a breach of the lockdown rules”.

Does it really matter?

Too bloody right it does!

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 20:02:46

Johnson is in real danger nailing his colours so firmly to Cumming’s mast.

Cummings could take Johnson with him when he finally goes.

NfkDumpling Sun 24-May-20 20:24:15

Apparently DC’s father contacted the police to ask about security. The virus was mentioned only in passing. Not sure why the father had to enquire what to do about security - surely this would have been covered on previous visits? Or did he only visit when there was a blue moon? Anyone believe this?

I don’t think Boris nailed his colours to Cummings mast, I think Cummings had caged him and bolted the cage to the mast already.

Fennel Sun 24-May-20 20:55:11

But why?
What has DC got that gives him this control?

Nannytopsy Sun 24-May-20 21:39:48

Not all bad then * Whitewave*!

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 21:47:46

nannytopsy?

FarNorth Sun 24-May-20 22:11:37

Wibby does it really matter??

They could have spread infection - we can't know if they did or not.

Others now feel justified in abandoning being careful and doing what they want - as some on GN have already said they will do because of this.

Of course it matters.

FlexibleFriend Sun 24-May-20 22:18:45

I'm staying home to protect me and mine and really couldn't care less what anyone else decides to do. Lots of people are ignoring Government advice but I refuse to get upset by it. I have no control over what anyone else chooses to do but I can control how I react to it. So if others choose to put themselves at risk it no doubt means I'll be staying home for longer then so be it at least I'll be alive.

EllanVannin Sun 24-May-20 22:27:41

Someone in the media has gone online getting protesters together from different towns/cities to demonstrate against lockdown.
I wondered how long it would be before there were protests.

Hetty58 Sun 24-May-20 22:30:03

Wibby, yes, it does really matter a great deal. Your statement about 'stupid enough to risk his own health as well as his family' is incomplete. Risking other people's health has to be included too. Possible hospital treatment with risks to staff. Maybe contamination of places they stayed, touched, stopped at or visited? So it really is our business what he did, isn't it?

Furret Sun 24-May-20 22:30:13

As I can apparently have my butler, or my nanny or my cleaner come into my house then my instinct is that sitting in the garden with my family 2m away is less hazardous than getting on a bus or visiting the supermarket.

Callistemon Sun 24-May-20 22:44:52

security???

Do you mean we pay for security for this person and his family?
shock

Surely not?
