I was so happy to take delivery of my sugar drop tomato plant today.

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jun-20 11:15:05

I bet you're all envious. Only worked out at £7.
For all this

Aldom Fri 05-Jun-20 13:29:26

Oh dear!! What can I say?? ?

blossom14 Fri 05-Jun-20 13:34:16

Miss Adventure send them a photo and ask for a replacement or your money back.

NotSpaghetti Fri 05-Jun-20 13:38:21

WHAT were they advertising?
These are microscopic!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 05-Jun-20 13:38:43

MissA How do these firms get away with what is tantamount to daylight robbery? (Have you been to Morrisons near you? as the one in Hadleigh has set up an outside plant/veggie store?)

25Avalon Fri 05-Jun-20 13:40:18

Wasn’t from Sutton’s was it? Plant it anyway sinking the stem deep as it will grow roots from the stem and make sue to get a refund.

Chewbacca Fri 05-Jun-20 13:42:11

Oh MissA that's really disappointing; very poor quality plants, I'd be really * off with those. I'm not sure that I'd bother asking for replacements now because by the time new plants arrive, it's getting a bit late in the season for them to catch up sufficiently to give a crop. Think I'd just ask for my money back. Does your neighbourhood have a Facebook page? There's a reasonable chance that people will be giving away excess plants on there?

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jun-20 14:09:27

I don't use Facebook, chewy, though for a bargain or freebie I might.

I bought the last 3 tomato plants from the Morrisons here, a couple of weeks ago, grannygravy and they were a real bargain!

So glad I did, now.

I bought 5 tomato plug plants online. When they finally arrived, after about 6 weeks, they had been in the green plastic containerso long they had grown to the top and back down again. They were almost bent double. I potted them on into 3" pots and propped them up with a little stick. They are starting to grow now so don't give up hope yet.

Charleygirl5 Fri 05-Jun-20 14:41:20

I bought 3 online and when they arrived I thought they were moribund. I planted them anyway and they are tiny little flourishing plants which seem to enjoy my level of neglect so I am hopeful I may get something. Normally I would have bought locally but everywhere was closed.

MissTree Fri 05-Jun-20 14:44:47

Oh no !

Callistemon Fri 05-Jun-20 15:11:00

Oh dear. It may recover with some TLC.

Our seeds have been most disappointing.
£3.60 for a packet of 10 geranium seeds of which 2 eventually germinated. They are about 1.5 cm high now.
£3.60 for 10 capsicum seeds - none germinated but I have grown 5 from seeds from the inside of a pepper. 2cms high now!
White flowering bean seeds (can't remember the price, probably £4 or so) one has come up.
2 out of 10 cucumber seeds germinated.

Mine weren't Suttons, they were Mr F********l

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jun-20 15:15:42

Mine was from Ebay, because I couldn't find a garden site that was delivering early on in the lockdown.

I did order some from an online site a while back, and they were a bit better, but not much: plus, the wait was ridiculous.

Callistemon Fri 05-Jun-20 15:32:25

I had to wait ages and my order was in the last group being accepted.
We thought the local garden centre wasn't delivering because everything said 'out of stock online'. In fact, they did have stock but were taking orders by phone only confused

Chewbacca Fri 05-Jun-20 15:32:50

Nearly everyone I've spoken to this year has had disappointing results from seeds, hardly any germination, if at all. Like Callistemon my capsicum peppers, cucumbers and aubergine all failed or just did dismally.

Callistemon Fri 05-Jun-20 16:38:52

I wonder why?
They were quite expensive, too.

Two cucumbers germinated out of 10 seeds. We probably only need two but could have given some away.
The cherry tomato seeds produced three plants.

However, there are tomatoes growing everywhere in the garden beds from seeds which must have been in the home-made compost.

craftyone Fri 05-Jun-20 17:56:15

dt brown is the same re poorly germinating seeds this year and their delivery of plants is very poor right now. Many people are waiting for tomato plants which were supposed to be sent mid may

I had one marketmore cucumber from 10 seeds sown. It has been hard going this year and ebay sellers have been better than the big company
