In April BBC news reported:
"Air pollution levels in the UK have dropped significantly in the two weeks since the country went into lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus.
"Some cities have seen nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels fall by up to 60% on the same period last year, analysis shows.
"NO2, released from car exhausts, is a serious air pollutant and also indirectly contributes to the warming of the planet.
"Campaigners said they hoped it would lead to a permanent change."
Does the pollution level you talk about refer to something else, or is the overall drop not now so substantial because the traffic has gradually increased?
My daughter said, because we have a car, I was a hypocrite for saying I hoped the level of car usage would fall. I was rather hurt because I wasn't suggesting nobody should have or use a car. I was saying that I would walk whenever practical or use public transport - I do that a lot of the time anyway because I can't drive but I will make more of an effort. I think it would be a good thing if fit and able bodied people stop using their cars for very short journeys.
