When did this happen ?

If you have an iPhone go onto settings then privacy then health and you will see you have a “Covid 19 exposure“ app suddenly appeared if you have an android phone its under settings then google settings
It’s ‘off’ at the moment but if they can put it on without telling us then they can put it to active without telling us

Anyone cleverer than me who can offer a valid explanation as to why this has happened ‘through the back door’
Seems quite sinister to me

Can't find anything on OH android phone under settings or google settings ...

mokryna Sat 20-Jun-20 15:31:01

Some people say they are law abiding citizens so they are not worried about this app but as you have just pointed out, you did not give permission for its installation. Some are not over worried at the moment, as it is for what we could say a 'good cause'. But later, who is in control of all the private details and would they be sold on for advertising and can the app be definitely cleared and not lurking somewhere deep in the devise. To look for more advanced use, see China.

I have found it on my iPhone and am not happy, what else can they put on and is our information truly private.

DH just checked his android phone, and sure enough under Google settings ....it is there.
He did not give permission for its installation.
Maybe it will be useful if we get a second wave.

Thanks BlueBelle, I have just found this on my Android phone!

Can it be disabled, turned off?

Bridie22 Sat 20-Jun-20 15:53:18

Can't find one on my iphone bluebell.

janeainsworth Sat 20-Jun-20 15:54:40

Bluebelle It says you have to have an authorised app installed before you can enable exposure logging.

I don’t see what the problem is. No one has to enable it if they don’t want to, but I would have thought we all want to do what we can to help track & trace Covid outbreaks. As the epidemic wanes, there will still be localised outbreaks & this is where tracing contacts becomes important.

I’ve been doing the Covid-19 symptom reporting from the beginning & it’s providing very useful information.

SueDonim Sat 20-Jun-20 15:58:27

It’s probably this.

If you enable exposure logging it means that you can be informed if you’ve been in contact with an infected person. What’s not to like?

Marydoll Sat 20-Jun-20 15:59:11

I have found it on my Samsung Android.

tidyskatemum Sat 20-Jun-20 16:02:20

The one that has appeared on my phone is for the USA. I’ve uninstalled it. We’ll see if it reappears.

Marydoll Sat 20-Jun-20 16:04:45

It is a good idea, but the fact that it has been installed, without users having any knowledge of it, is what is concerning me.

Blinko Sat 20-Jun-20 16:08:50

It's on my Android phone... My Bluetooth's turned off, so I presume it won't work. But isn't the system not working anyway?

What's going on?

Marydoll Sat 20-Jun-20 16:10:55

Apparently, you have to finish off installing it, for it to be active.
Panic over.

Marydoll Sat 20-Jun-20 16:17:52

You actually have to accept it and Bluetooth needs to be on.

Blinko Sat 20-Jun-20 16:21:52

Read the link now. thanks, SueDonim. What a complete balls up.

J52 Sat 20-Jun-20 16:40:44

Not on my IPhone.

janeainsworth Sat 20-Jun-20 16:47:52

Marydoll It is a good idea, but the fact that it has been installed, without users having any knowledge of it, is what is concerning me.

Every time your smartphone updates the system, or an app is updated, small changes are introduced.
This is no different.

allium Sat 20-Jun-20 16:56:04

Not on my iphone yet? Will keep a look out for it.

rockgran Sat 20-Jun-20 17:04:49

Not on my iPhone - probably too old.

tanith Sat 20-Jun-20 17:10:38

It’s on my Samsung android

BlueBelle Sat 20-Jun-20 20:03:17

Well wether it’s a good idea or not I expect to be asked not just find it lurking there without my permission
What else can this godforsaken government do without my permission, we re not in a communist state we should have a voice and a choice
Of course it might be a good idea IF THEY COULD MANAGE ONE THAT WORKS but what else can hop on the back of that app if and when we ever get it up and running
I don’t trust the crew running this they don’t do anything for the good of the country only for the good of themselves

Whitewavemark2 Sat 20-Jun-20 20:43:34

I wouldn’t worry too much, I reckon the government has given up on this. It seems to have defeated them.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 20-Jun-20 20:47:09

Full fact
