Denim: An indispensable wardrobe addition.

Hi all,
I had my denim jacket on today and realised how versatile and essential denim is. I wouldn't be without my denim jacket and my jeans (skinny stretch, all colours, but I would love some embroidered ones). My denim jacket is my go to jacket for what I call effortless chic (my everyday type), and is absolutely perfect with a nice scarf. I keep meaning to pick up a denim skirt to wear with an off the shoulder top, too. I don't actually know why I'm going on about denim, but I adore denim. X

Maybe you were a prisoner in a former life??
Watching re -runs of Downton Abbey the other night, I was struck by the intricacies of Victorian and then Edwardian dress and how women must have felt really liberated by what they called ‘the new clothes’ ( and shingled hair) of 1920’s.
Wonder how they would have viewed wearing denim though?
We shall never know.

I like denim too but always seem to find jeans cold in the Winter months.

Have you tried wearing fleece leggings under them? X

I've always loved denim, since it became fashionable in the '60s and '70s and still like it now. My latest purchase just before lockdown was a thin denim hooded jacket, thought it would have been ideal for travel. Are we ever too old for denim?

Fleece leggings under jeans?? I would die of heat. How uncomfortable too

Dollymc2 Sun 21-Jun-20 19:49:23

Your post has just reminded me that I have a denim jacket, which I've not worn for years
I've also got jeans which I never wear either, they are M & S Autograph stretch ones and slip down gradually throughout the day
I think that it's time denim and me parted company permanently

Lemongrove yes the '20s style must have been so liberating as well as comfortable, same with the short hair after centuries of long hair with elaborated hair styles!

I can tell you the views of one woman, lemongrove
My mother had her hair 'semi-shingled' as soon as it became fashionable and apparently was brilliant at dancing The Charleston wearing those flapper dresses.
She never really understood the appeal of denim when I wore it in the 1960s - unappealing and like a workman's uniform!

You will wear it on your travels one day. X

I really hope so. X

This piqued my interest, FlyingHandbag!

I don't think I have ever owned anything denim.

I have never worn jeans.

I don't know why

I never bought the children anything denim either!

Maybe I'll go out and buy myself something denim, now that the shops are open.

I love a denim dress

You really should. I would recommend high waisted jeans in a straight leg or a nice denim jacket (can be dressed up with nice scarfs and other accessories). X

I like the darker denims, but not so keen on the lighter bleached colour.
Oopsminty talking of children in denim, Princess Charlotte is wearing a lovely pair of denim short dungarees from John Lewis in yesterday's photo.

LadyBella Mon 22-Jun-20 09:30:22

Hmmm...think denim after a certain age is dubious. I tried on a denim jacket 15 years ago and both my children said NO!

Callistemon Mon 22-Jun-20 09:47:51

I think dark denim jeans are fine LadyBella after a certain age but now just wondering what age and whether I should dispose of mine. hmm
I don't wear them often and probably wouldn't travel in them as they're not that comfortable.

Ellianne Mon 22-Jun-20 09:51:20

Nooo, don't dispose of them, try making a patchwork shoulder bag from them Callistemon.

BlueSky Mon 22-Jun-20 09:52:17

LadyBella since when children tell us what to do? You like it you wear it!

Grandma70s Mon 22-Jun-20 09:52:52

I’m 80 and I would look silly in denim - not that this seems to stop some people. Why should I want to dress in clothes made of an American workmen’s fabric, anyway?

Witzend Mon 22-Jun-20 09:53:53

I live in jeans in winter. But I don’t have anything else denim.

MawB Mon 22-Jun-20 09:57:08

Stick with the denim ladies! It is timeless and shows you are young at heart.
I agree about dark indigo and also about denim jackets. You are never too old for them as long as they are not scruffy. Straight jeans, cropped jeans , if you have good ankles, but never elasticated waists! (Go up a size for comfort or buy “relaxed fit” )
I usually wear my jeans with a Breton top and white trainers.
And lipstick. ?

Lucca Mon 22-Jun-20 09:57:18

I bought a denim jacket last year and wear it over the famous Zara dress. I did ask my lovely DIL about mutton dressed as.... but she said it was absolutely fine
I don’t need her permission but value her opinion
I wear dark stretchy jeans a lot.

Lucca Mon 22-Jun-20 09:58:04

MawB. Totally agree.
