This may have been asked before but what has been your favourite present?

My DD, for my birthday each year buys me a monthly subscription of fresh flowers. They are such a joy throughout the year. These are the latest.

They are lovely dragonfly.
I really like a magazine subscription and look forward to getting it each month. It's the gift that keeps giving.

The flower and magazine subscriptions both sound brilliant to me! (I was thinking about how much I appreciate receiving "good quality" hand cream.)

Yes, flowers are always lovely. A dd once gave me 3 months of Bloom and Wild - they come in a flat box through the letterbox and were always very fresh and lovely.

A very different ‘best’ present was when dh found online copies of 2 treasured books which my mother had unthinkingly got rid of shortly after I went off to university and she was de-cluttering prior to a move.

One of them was an already old and long out of print book given to me by a grandfather in the 60s - published pre 1900, so I was amazed when dh found an identical copy - it could almost have been the same one.
Good old abebooks! - that was where I think he found both of them.

Another from dh was my first pair of lovely sheepskin house boots from Celtic Sheepskin - wonderful for winter - but in that case I’d left a printout on his desk, with size and style clearly circled, to save him racking his brains about what to get me.

Yes these are Bloom and Wild

The subscription of flowers is a fabulous gift dragonfly.
My gift on leaving a job was 2 years subscription to Woman & Home magazine and that was a great gift too.

My sister got me a tour day and afternoon tea at David Austin Roses one Birthday - so thoughtful and a super Summer’s Day Out.

I buy a Spa Day, treatments and lunch for DD and Me annually for her Birthday as she says it’s a treat she looks forward to every February.

I always give DS1 (in USA) an annual subscription to the BBC History magazine and our local history group magazine for his birthday. He often says how much he enjoys them. Easy to do as the postage to USA for any other gift would be horrendous.

For my last birthday DD1 sent me a fancy cream tea in a box delivered to the door by Mrs Shabby and Mrs Chic. I was delighted!

This year it will be a socially distanced picnic with my son and two granddaughters. I'll have to sit on my hands so I don't cuddle them though!

It's 4th July so not long now!

Puzzler61 Tue 30-Jun-20 15:56:47

Is your birthday 4th July Grannyb?

AGAA4 Tue 30-Jun-20 15:58:18

Enjoy the picnic Grannybags. It will be hard to not cuddle them though. Good Luck!

Grannybags Tue 30-Jun-20 16:01:54

Yes Puzzler61 - I think it's supposed to rain....!

Thanks AGAA4!

A birthday and an easing of Lockdown. What a memorable day ?
We’ll ignore the forecast for rain and the wind may blow it away over the Channel.

I love flowers too. Always acceptable. I bought my husband a Gardening magazine subscription and it’s the best present I’ve bought him.

Isn't it interesting that as we get older we set less store by material things and more by experiences.

I have enough stuff and long to get rid of most of it.

Poppyred Tue 30-Jun-20 16:14:50

Had a delivery of flowers from Bloom and Wild today! They are gorgeous. (Birthday in a few days....)

Puzzler61 Tue 30-Jun-20 16:19:17

I had some deep purple and white ones today from M&S - mine in a few days too ?

My partner always buys me some Molton Brown hand cream and/or shower gel as part of my birthday and Chri**mas presents.
I used to keep them for special days ... now I don’t, I use them every day.

What a beautiful gift dragonfly smile

My favourite present without a doubt is my Kindle. My daughter bought it for me about 3 or 4 years ago. Up until then I used to buy books online. I've always been an avid reader. It's been a Godsend , esp when I (used to) go on holidays. Wouldn't be without it now.

Evie64 Tue 30-Jun-20 18:01:16

PS: She also bought me a subscription to Puzzler Magazine grin

DS bought us a hot air balloon flight a couple of years ago. It was over a year before we got to use it - cancelled at short notice 8 times due to rain, wind being in the wrong direction etc.! Worth it when we finally got up there though.

Puzzler61 Tue 30-Jun-20 18:50:39

Did you always want to go up in a balloon or was it a surprise gift?
I’ve missed seeing the hot air balloons up over our skies at Malvern tidyskatemum There are usually several a week when the weather is good - and of course it’s been beautiful for weeks back to back this Spring, but it’s not permitted.

One year, when my sister and I were going to Venice after my birthday, my family paid for our gondola trip and a historical walk round the city. Another time, they bought me a balloon flight which was constantly delayed owing to windy weather, but I eventually got it, albeit on a disappointingly cloudy day. Some years ago I suggested that I would like a flying lesson for my 80th birthday (which will be this November) but they decided to bring it forward and I had my prized flying lesson several years early. What next? Can't imagine!

I am a Beatle nut. For my birthday a few years ago, my daughter bought me a night's stay in The Hard Day's Night hotel in Liverpool and tickets for the Cavern Club. Bliss for me. I let DH come along as it was for two!
