Soap-on-a-rope

Remember these? I have just bought 2 from ebay, as I am so sick of losing the soap on the shower.

Indeed, I hate and detest showering - as I may have mentioned before.

I am very short-sighted and cannot see a thing in the shower with my glasses off - I also have very long hair so the rinsing activity takes lots of time. I always drop the soap and I bend over (with difficulty!) and feel around for it.

I hate it all so much that I only do it twice a week - but the "pits and bits" get attention on the other days.

This morning I was thinking that I need some fluorescent pink soap so I can see it better - then remembered soap-on-a-rope. Went onto ebay and - bingo! - lots of choice - some cost £24!!!

I can't easily get in and out of bath, and anyway I hate sitting in my own dirt.

Anyone else hate showering as much as I do?

I love the shower? It's only the thought I'd the water bill that gets me out!

But funnily enough, I was only thinking yesterday that I wish I had a soap on a rope.

Not sure I want to pay that price though?

Yes - but a necessary evil when getting in and out of the bath is too risky! Use a shower gel in a pump action bottle which is returned to shelf and shoulder height, and saves dropping things and scrabbling about a floor level.

I remember my mum used to occasionally buy soap on a rope from Avon, for gifts.
One Christmas (about 50 years ago) she bought me one shaped like a lightbulb ?...

I’m just nearing the end of my Soap & Glory soap on a rope. It’s star-shaped, bright pink, and smells lovely. And it’s kept its shape right to the end. Highly recommended! smile

Yes Luckygirl. I absolutely hate showering We have a shower cubicle. I bang my arms on the sides, drop the soap or shower gel, can't see to find it if I've shampood my hair. I'm very short sighted too. Fortunately we have a bath too.

Love my shower too, sometimes I’ll have 2 a day in the Summer. I do remember soap on a rope though I bought my then husband an old spice one.

I use a sisal soap bag from here: www.cosycottagesoap.co.uk/collections/accessories/products/sisal-soap-bag (They also do some really nice handmade, eco-friendly soaps).

You use the soap through the bag, and it has a long enough drawstring to hang on the shower door.

I like showers. I've got one over the bath (very rarely have baths) and I shower and wash my hair every morning. I've got shelving at each end of the bath, shoulder-high, so my shower gels, loofahs, shampoos, etc., all go in there. Not a problem.

Jabberwok Sat 25-Jul-20 11:15:15

We've got a walk in shower, no bath, I enjoy my daily shower and keep shower gel and shampoo at shoulder height so no bending ! I sometimes think I'd love to soak my poor old bones in a nice hot bath, but a) we haven't got one and b) if we had, I don't think I would ever get out of it!!!!!!

Puzzler61 Sat 25-Jul-20 11:15:44

I like showers and a bath equally, depending on how much time I want to spend in the bathroom.

Luckygirl you’ve pinged my memory right back 25 years to a time I was an Avon lady when my girls were young. The range was nowhere near as wide as it is now, but one of the best sellers was children’s “Pretty Peach soap-on-a-rope”.
Very girly and a nice fragrance.

I remember commission was good too - 20pence for every £ of Avon I sold, and picked my own working hours!
Happy memories.

'ever be able to get out of it!'

Gwenisgreat1 Sat 25-Jul-20 11:20:06

No, I love a shower, but hate a bath, in the bath my skin seems to shrink (but fails to pull any wrinkles out).

Jane10 Sat 25-Jul-20 11:42:40

I'd like an occasional bath but impossible to get in and out of. Showers for me now. We have a shoulder height shower tray for gel and shampoo which is fine. One nice thing about the lockdown is that I decided to use my posh shower gel and soaps. Christmas present stuff that I usually (pointlessly) hoard, for reasons I think. Just that it's too good to use. We'll I'm using it now. I smell great these days!

How about a shower caddy? You can buy them to hang over shower doors, or hook onto the shower fitting itself. You can stash all your shampoo, conditioner, soap etc in it and it’s all to hand.
Dunelm do lots, the over door one is £5 and you can order on line.

jenpax Sat 25-Jul-20 11:52:59

I am another that can’t manage a bath anymore ( to my distress) as I have always loved them.
I hate showers! I am short sighted too and hate dropping things and scrambling to get them and I always seem to bang my elbow on the cubicle side and due to my health issues I suffer from dizzy spells if I stand too long so it’s all a drama these days ??‍♀️?

EllanVannin Sat 25-Jul-20 11:53:50

Not overly keen on showers, I like to be covered in warm water, not standing shivering until my feet go purple grin. I am encouraged by the shower gel though, it smells gorgeous ( Maja ) a Spanish one off the internet. I buy two at a time, they're lush as well as a treat.
I need a new back scrub now so will order one over the weekend.

Charleygirl5 Sat 25-Jul-20 12:01:40

I also do not have a bath anymore and if I had one it would resemble the sinking of the Titanic and I would not be able to get out of it. I love my shower and I bought a stool which for me is invaluable. I also have a shower caddy type thing which has 4 shelves so holds everything I need.

midgey Sat 25-Jul-20 12:11:51

I hate showers but that’s what we have. I have found that I have to turn over in the bath to allow me to get out!

Grannynannywanny Sat 25-Jul-20 12:37:17

midgey same difficulty here getting out of bath and that’s why I mostly shower. Treated myself to a soak in bath yesterday without considering my painful swollen knee till it was time to get on my knees to haul myself out. After several failed attempts I thought I was going to have to call out the bathroom window for my neighbour to pass me in a tow rope!

I find the radox shower gels handy as they have useful hanging hook on them. No risk of the bottle slipping out of hand.

Grandmabatty Sat 25-Jul-20 12:38:55

I haven't had a bath for years! Before you don the clothespegs on your noses, I have a shower daily. I use shower gel and put it on the shelf beside the shower head. I loathe baths and would never have had one to relax. Soap on a rope isn't for me but crack on. Each to their own.

Alexa Sat 25-Jul-20 12:45:31

I'd be stuck in the bath if I ever ventured in so I shower, and it is an awful nuisance when the soap falls on to the floor, dangerous too. Geekesse, I will have look at the cosy cottages hemp soap bag net thing.

PamelaJ1 Sat 25-Jul-20 13:10:36

I prefer baths- a book, bubbles and a glass of wine, bliss.
However I have a soap on a rope in the shower. It lasts ages and doesn’t come in a plastic bottle. I hang it from one of those tidy things that have suckers on and stick to the cubicle.

BlueSky Sat 25-Jul-20 13:15:17

No love our walk in shower we had put in for the (not too distant) future when a bath could be out of the question. You could solve the problem of soap by using a shower gel hooked somewhere in the cubicle.

rubysong Sat 25-Jul-20 13:17:05

Good for you with soap on a rope! I have been given one but not yet used it, we normally have a bar of Pears soap for the shower and a shampoo bar. I won't add to the world's plastic by buying shower gel and bottles of shampoo.
