Good afternoon everyone. I hope you are all having a good day. I've been into Nottingham city centre to meet my sisters for coffee. It was lovely to be together but there is a strange atmosphere about at the moment. Market square cordoned off because of a stabbing. Police in attendance. So many shops closed down. It was cooler today but very dull. I don't think that helped the mood either. Both my sisters have problems with work money relationships family etc. Makes me very sad wish l could do something to help.

Good Afternoon all from a grey Harrogate. I have one mischievous GD with mer just now. We have been to the swing park, hoping to wear her down, it only slightly worked. DD and GS arrived, he's still obssessed with counting. After 2-ty-1. and 2-ty-9, It's 3-ty, then 3-ty-1 etc.
He'll get there!!

Marydoll Thu 13-Aug-20 13:25:22

Whata relief, Grandmattie.
My friend's test came back as inconclusive yesterday. She now has to isolate for eleven days while her GP and the hospital argue as to who is responsible for doing a second test! It's disgraceful.

Grandmabatty Thu 13-Aug-20 13:08:55

I'm glad to hear it's nothing nasty grandmattie

Puzzler61 Thu 13-Aug-20 13:06:11

Breathe again Grandmattie ! Extremely pleased for the young lady - and yourselves.
I fear we will all be so nervous when seasonal snuffles begin in the Autumn, as they do every year, but there is that added worry isn’t there? The “C19” word.

Enjoy your day now - even though it may be raining cats and dogs as it is here. ☔️

grandMattie Thu 13-Aug-20 12:52:13

DGD’s CV19 test has just come back negative! It appears to be just a feverish summer cold. She’s snotty but as right as rain today. We can proceed with our lives. Phew

Good morning all - by two minutes as I write! - from a sunny but breezy Angus coast. That train crash yesterday was terrible, and so close - I think our station would have been it's next stop. It's so strange that the weather was so horrendous just a few miles up the coast. We had some heavy rain and a few rumbles of thunder, but that was all. DD lives in the middle of the country, the southern tip of Perthshire, and they had a horrendous night. DGD1 had to sleep with DGD2 who was terrified, while DD had to go downstairs and sleep with the dog! Today is art group day, but I think maybe we should change our name to the natterjacks or something - there's certainly no art!! Tomorrow is tai chi in the garden, weather permitting. It's so lovely to be back seeing people again although I find it hard to re-adjust to justmedom afterwards. Life before lockdown used to be so full.
Thinking of all the many DGDs receiving their exam results today and hoping they are not wildly wide of the expected mark. My DGD1 was so elated on Tuesday when she was allowed her teachers' graded results. She's now facing her final year at school from a more positive standpoint. God bless to them all. And God bless to all GNs, whatever you're up to today. ??

Morning (again) Mick and the GM team from a very warm east London.

I too Maryd, did a long post earlier and lost it. I was certain I had posted it, but it’s not here. (If my post miraculously appears upthread, please disregard what follows here. My daily life is currently pretty small, so nobody needs to read it twice!).

Further to the hard peaches ? - I baked some ( following GNs suggestions. Thank you - delish ). I read about a woman who ripened peaches by wrapping them individually in linen napkins. Not wanting to crease our linen napkins and have to iron them, we wrapped the remaining peaches individually in kitchen paper. After 24-36 hours they are ripe and juicy. Apparently if you then refrigerate them, they don’t ripen further.

Ellan hope all goes well with your DD and RL in Durham.
Ohh Harri, I imagine the olive oil from Harvey Nics is good!
Thinking of Dragonfly, Bluesapphire, Purplepixie and wishing all the gangsters on the Lockdown thread a comfortable day.
Have a good day, all ?

CherryCezzy Thu 13-Aug-20 11:04:50

Good morning everyone. It's a bit cooler here in Gower today after yesterday's humid drippy ? conditions.

Lins that storm was from over our way I think. It was quite odd for hours - continuous flashes but no rain. The heavens eventually opened around 00.30am.

Marydoll and Susan it sounds like you both had a lovely day yesterday ☺️

Marydoll, don't worry about your DGD being quiet on her short visit after her first day in school my niece2, a child psychologist, would tell you it's not uncommon.

Grammaretto all I'll say to that is aww ?

gillybob they thrive on small errors... . It would appear so, and unfortunately has been forever thus! It not right and it's not fair and if they didn't then there'd be more money ? for actual services in this isle! Keep your pecker up you work so hard you deserve rewards.

My brain cell means that I'm still in guppy mode so sorry I know there are lovely people I wanted to respond to but I'm stuck in the fishbowl ?

I'm actually venturing out today and early from shielding ? ?. I've got an appointment with my hairdresser, I just couldn't wait any longer as I now resemble a witch ?.

Be kind to yourselves everyone, stay safe and have a wonderful day ❤️

gillybob Thu 13-Aug-20 10:57:23

Aaah thank you EV I thought I remembered you mentioning October. I do hope things have improved for her and she is not missing her family too much poor lamb. It must be so difficult for everyone especially considering she is so far away from home. sad

EllanVannin Thu 13-Aug-20 10:48:13

Gillybob, yes it's either October or November that Ruby-Lou ends her stint in Durham, but after that we don't know. I'm guessing that because D is on her own today that she'll be shown around the place where the child is staying and will probably explain where they're up to with treatment etc.

gillybob Thu 13-Aug-20 10:46:33

Strange you should say that EllanVannin but one of my lads was travelling back up North on the A420 between Swindon and Oxford last night and told me this morning that he was sure he did see a tornado . He said the leaves were flying around and the traffic was reduced to a snails pace . Within minutes of the rain starting the roads were flooded. He didn't make it home until way after midnight.

EllanVannin Thu 13-Aug-20 10:40:02

Front page news in my local paper. It was about our yellow sky last night, namely our bizarre sulphur-colour sky. Nobody knew what to expect and some were waiting for a tornado, it was that bad.
Which is why I didn't go out to get the neighbour's washing off the line ( coward, that's me ) grin Then a night of rain/thunder and lightening----again. This is every night !

Susan56 Thu 13-Aug-20 10:31:56

Marydoll, you and your husband have such a great relationship with your little granddaughter.Your son and daughter in law won’t do anything to jeopardise that or their relationship with you both.Time is a great healer and while you will always remember this upset your son will calm down and things will return to a more even keel.
Sending you strength??and?

harrigran Thu 13-Aug-20 10:14:35

Good morning from a cool, misty NE.
Cote at home delivery this morning, we will be eating extremely well for a few days.
Ordered olive oil from Harvey Nichols yesterday we have just had a text to say it will be delivered this afternoon, now that is service as we didn't pay for next day delivery.
My sister has temperatures in the 30s in Germany, thankfully her appartment has a balcony and awning so she can sit out. She is living in hope of being able to visit the UK in December, I haven't seen her since October last year.
TOYA, take care.

Urmstongran Thu 13-Aug-20 10:07:47

Marydoll I think you are one amazing lady. I can feel your underlying upset but you seem good at compartmentalising. These family dramas pass. I really admire your strength of character.

Goooooood morning from a much cooler Yorkshire, whoaaaa I feel human again.

Today I am looking after my GC ( 4 of them) then my GD is coming home with me and sleeping 2 nights .

I am going to visit a local charity shop with my GD, always get something when we go.

Apart from that, I intend to chill rest of day as the amount of sleep I had last night amounted to none with it being sooooo warm ( despite having my fan on almost all night )

We cant cope in this country can we, just not used to it.sunshineconfusedsunshineconfused

Puzzler61 Thu 13-Aug-20 09:50:19

Off you go Nanny Blade. Have a good day with little GD. X

Puzzler61 Thu 13-Aug-20 09:49:32

Keep going Marydoll , never give up, you’ve so much life to live!
It must have been a real treat to see your GD after her first day at school. Try not to give headspace to her parents, don’t let them get in the way of the lovely relationship you and Mr MD have with that little girl.

Your day out sounds superb, just what you needed.
Go again, maybe give the shops a miss. You probably don’t really need any more clothes, and you can take your own sausage rolls.

Love your photo of an empty beach.

Take care and have as good a day as you can ?

BladeAnnie Thu 13-Aug-20 09:49:03

Good morning from an overcast but still very humid and sticky mid-Notts - no storms have arrived here yet!! I'm in a bit of a rush because DD1 has just called begging me to do nanna duty while she gets everything ready for DGDs birthday tomorrow. So off I go!! Stay safe everyone x

Marydoll Thu 13-Aug-20 09:39:30

Justwidowed, it's not really the injections, it's what comes after that bothers me. The side effects have been horrendous.

I do struggle to even press the plunger with my arthritic hands and hold it down long enough to do it all in one go.

Susan56 Thu 13-Aug-20 09:34:49

Good morning from Shropshire. We had thunder and lightning for about six hours last night along with torrential rain.Sunny this morning but with a nice breeze.

Our meal out yesterday went well.Felt very safe,my favourite part though was no clearing up and dishes to do?We did a bit of shopping in town as well and had a mooch round the market.

DD came over with the children,it was lovely seeing happy Henry back.DGD was furious with DD as she wanted to stay but they have plans today.

Hope your DGD’s test results come back soon grandMattie, such an upset for you.

Glad all the little ones had a good first day at school.Hope Marydoll’s little granddaughter had a good day too.

Still got my fingers crossed for you gilly and hope your daughter has a good day with Ruby Lou today Ellan.

Sending good wishes to all with illness and worries?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 13-Aug-20 09:34:43

justwidowed congratulations on your new GGD, hope you are able to have a cuddle soon ????

Marydoll Thu 13-Aug-20 09:33:29

Good morning all from a sunny Glasgow, it's not often I can say that! grin
I did write a novella at 6.30am, then lost it into the ether! ?
You have all had a lucky escape from my ramblings! wink

We had a lovely trip down the Ayrshire coast yesterday. Prestwick was reasonably quiet, now that the schools are back.
A wander through the town, some window shopping, an extortionate ice cream (DH's fault!) and a picnic were just the tonic I needed!
I plucked up courage to go into two shops, a boutique and Greggs. That was enough for me.
The owner of the boutique spied me looking lustfully at a long linen coat in the window and invited me in.
I explained I had been shielding and hadn't been in a shop since the beginning of March and I had to be very careful.
She invited me in, as the shop was empty and with mask, sanitised hands and gloves, I went for it.
The sale rails were full of beautiful and colourful clothes. ?
NONE were my size. On looking at the photo taken later in the day, with my wee granddaughter in her uniform, I realised I am seriously overweight!!

The other shop we visited was Greggs. DH wanted a sausage roll, so in we went to the empty shop. We couldn't see the sanitiser, went round the wrong way, with the assistant trying to politely direct us and a patient young man trying to dodge us, only to find they had no cakes left!!! ?
Two supposedly intelligent people, had turned into a pair of old fogeys. We couldn't stop laughing! ?
That was the sum of my shopping, it was too stressful. I have got this far and am not going to ruin it now by being reckless.

Much to our delight, we did see our wee darling after her first day at school. When asked what she had done all day, her reply was Nothing!. She is usually full of chat, but all she wanted to do was play with her watering can.
Although we said nothing, it was all very awkward after her parents refusal to come to the wedding. She was only here for ten minutes. My husband is heartbroken.

Nothing planned for today, apart from trying to get DD's wedding video in the corrrect format.
DH maanged to edit it, but it won't play. He has reluctantly handed it over to me to work on it. I think his software is outdated, but he won't listen.
What would I know? I only taught film making to my pupils and colleagues!! wink

Have a good day everyone and as always sending best wishes to Dragonfly, Cherry and Bluesapphire.
I do hope the Goodmorninger's partners in the sick bay are making good progress.

Enjoy your day, whatever your plans.

Puzzler61 Thu 13-Aug-20 09:21:54

Congratulations to your family Justwidowed. Your family is certainly growing this year! ?
