Let's blame Boris

With highs of 33° expected AGAIN today, it's time to ask "could the government have done more?" Downing Street knew about this heatwave weeks ago and have done nothing. Shipments of 400,000 pairs of Speedos and 500,000 bikinis, sun cream and Cornettos have reportedly been sent back as unsafe after media claims the shipment was quarantined a month ago and Boris did nothing.

Karen from Chavington said, "We just don't know if it's safe to go outside and sunbathe because we can't function or think for ourselves. Boris hasn't told us either way and all my obese kids need ice cream and sweets, the Hubby can't get out to rob anyone so we're out of lager and weed, I blame the government entirely"

Meanwhile, anti- heat protesters dressed in thick jumpers chanting "cold lives matter" have marched on London, Big Ben has been removed and a giant Mint Feast put in its place by protesters.

The BBC reported earlier, 'clearly the sun has come out and Downing street have done nothing to prevent it.'

A second heat Wave is expected to hit the UK in 4 weeks time

I think the same about people who use the word Karen in this way.

Ilovecheese Thu 13-Aug-20 12:26:10

"Karen from chavington" what a charming remark, I don't think.
Trying to pretend that there is no basis on which to criticise the government for any of its many wrong decisions.

Don’t like the tone of any of this, sorry.

Lucca Thu 13-Aug-20 12:28:29

However I know a poster who will love it

Jane10 Thu 13-Aug-20 12:30:41

I think it's quite funny. Was it me you had in mind Lucca?
Satire is a long established form of humour in the UK.

Kate1949 Thu 13-Aug-20 12:32:11

I've been reading about the 'Karen' thing lately. How unkind.

Newatthis Thu 13-Aug-20 12:33:05

I thought it was funny too and didn't mean to cause any offence so apologies for that. Jane you must have the same sense of humour as me (glad I'm not alone).

Lucca

Nor do I. I doubt it's original, it's snobbish and not even clever satire. The demographic being pilloried here are more likely to be Johnson supporters than blamers, but there is also less-than-subtle suggestion that only 'chavs' are critical of the government's mismanagement of lockdown and the pandemic in general.

Absolutely not you. Satire is great if done well but I thought with the possible exception of the first paragraph it was not even worthy of a smile, sorry.

Lucca Thu 13-Aug-20 12:36:18

Oh and I am a long established citizen of the UK, so I know about satire.....

Iam64 Thu 13-Aug-20 12:40:37

Snobbish, unpleasant and not satirical.
The suggestion that those of us who criticise the way Mr Johnson's government is functioning, can be dismissed as "chavs" is offensive.
So much wrong with that OP

Furret Thu 13-Aug-20 13:04:42

I’m not laughing either. It’s clumsy, ungrammatical and falls well short of satire.

However little things amuse little minds.

Newatthis your name says it all. Keep trying and perhaps you can do better next time.

.

lemongrove Thu 13-Aug-20 13:16:06

Well...apart from poor Karens getting it in the neck ( like Sharons used to do) and Chavington, it’s actually amusing.
Boris gets blamed ( personally) for everything else, why not a heatwave?! ?

Jane10 Thu 13-Aug-20 13:16:40

Ignore them Newatthis. I hope you're all happy up there on your high horses. Down here, where the people are we like a laugh and, amazingly, we can laugh at ourselves.
Satire is in the eye of the beholder.

If you can’t work out the answer to your own question then....

lemongrove Thu 13-Aug-20 13:23:48

Oh do lighten up Furret

DiscoGran Thu 13-Aug-20 13:29:51

Uh oh. I laughed. Sorry sorry sorry. Not sorry.

This is an unpleasant post Newatthis

JenniferEccles Thu 13-Aug-20 13:42:36

I did chuckle at this, especially as I had wondered if it was yet another boring ‘blame the government for everything’ rant.

You have just about summed it up Newstthis so thanks for posting this.

You must have been well aware of the response from a predicable few but decided to go ahead anyway!

Jane10 Thu 13-Aug-20 13:42:42

Life isn't very pleasant NotSpaghetti Gransnet is only a reflection of this.
I find po faced responses to new posters unpleasant but there we are!

JenniferEccles Thu 13-Aug-20 13:46:43

I particularly liked the idea of the ‘cold lives matter’ demonstration!

We get them about everything else so why not?!!

boodymum67 Thu 13-Aug-20 13:50:03

brilliant..made me chuckle..thanks

get over yourself and laugh a little!

NotSpaghetti Thu 13-Aug-20 13:53:23

Its nothing to do with new posters Jane10. I didn't even notice NewatThis is new!
But were all new posters once.

I just think we should think of people as people whatever their home, education, background and so on.
I hate the use of CHAV because it's demeaning and belittling. Also the use of Karen for similar reasons. It turns people into "the other".

Just very sad.
