1000 words. Photos on GN.

They say a picture paints a thousand words and there have been some lovely photos on GN recently. I am a visual person and, especially at this time, pictures cheer me up. Autumn scenes, people's gardens, cake baking, craftwork, pets, clothes we fancy buying etc. Even stock images of Boris, royalty etc.
What is the general feeling? Are they superfluous or do they add another dimension? Are we "allowed" to just drop them into a non photographic thread?

I enjoy the photos of things that people have made, craft projects, baking etc. However I feel slightly uncomfortable when people post photos of their grandchildren, not because I don't think that the children are delightful, but because I wonder if their parents want the photos on a public internet forum.

I agree. If someone has made something, or planted-up a pot it is nice to see a picture of it. Not so sure about photos of people though unless they are in the public eye anyway.

I don’t have grandchildren but I have planted up pots of flowers - and it’s very cheery to see the blooms at different seasons in the year.
These little viola’s have settled nicely and are a riot of colour so I’ll share.

I agree about the photos of grandchildren, Ilovecheese. I don't like to see them either on here or on other social media sites.

I remember when many GNers posted their photos on their profile for all to see. I always thought they were ill-advised, but it was interesting to see what people looked like!

As far as I'm concerned, any other photos brighten up the place, and we could certainly do with more of that right now.

PS I remember jingl once posted a photo of herself on a thread. It gave me quite a start as she was the spitting image of my grammar school headmistress! grin

merlotgran Fri 16-Oct-20 11:36:57

I love the thought of jingl as a headmistress.

St Trinian's springs to mind! grin

I found this lately looking through family history - my great great grandmother- she looks very severe.

Bathsheba Fri 16-Oct-20 11:42:11

Yes, I remember that photo of jingl too, in particular because she was almost exactly as I'd pictured her!

St Trinian's springs to mind! grin
Oh yes indeed, haha!

Millie22 Fri 16-Oct-20 11:43:49

She looks a bit glum but so would I if I had to wear a corset like that ?? they must have been so uncomfortable.

Riverwalk Fri 16-Oct-20 12:06:43

Has anyone heard from Jings?

merlotgran Fri 16-Oct-20 12:13:32

I keep hoping jingl will manage to sneak back under the wire seeing as HQ have a ridiculous unbending attitude towards her so called misdemeanours.

We've had far worse on the threads so I guess it's a personal huff!

Riverwalk Fri 16-Oct-20 12:19:29

Me too Merlot - we could do with her wit and wisdom!

Lucca Fri 16-Oct-20 12:24:38

I don’t remember Jingl..what did she do wrong ?

joannapiano Fri 16-Oct-20 12:29:54

She could be a bit blunt at times!

merlotgran Fri 16-Oct-20 12:36:19

In a nutshell, Lucca, jingl was a poster who was not afraid to ruffle feathers. She didn't suffer fools but was also kind and supportive. Back in the early days of Gransnet her off the wall style of humour was never a problem to HQ when Justine and Geraldine were at the helm. Geraldine would join in with the jokes. There was the occasional suspension but with the new regime it's their way or the highway.

A lot of us feel a life ban is grossly unfair and unwarranted.

Having said all that, the last time I wrote a heartfelt plea to get her back, she had already snuck in under the wire and I got a PM saying, 'It's me, you daft bat!' grin

Teatime Your gg grandmother would look lovely in blue jeans, T shirt and trainers. She was a pretty young woman.

Same here, merlot! She’d assumed I’d recognised her! grin

One of my paintings which I did during this lockdown. Painting always cheers me up.
Teatime - what a great photo. Sadly we don’t have many family photos.

Purplepixie Fri 16-Oct-20 13:06:22

This painting, after my second attempt to attach it.

Purplepixie Fri 16-Oct-20 13:07:11

Now I have 2, DOH! Sorry about this - computers grrrrrrr!

Jane10 Fri 16-Oct-20 14:16:15

I took this photo last week. The weather and the light wasn't great but the place was just so beautiful and the air was like champagne

fevertree Fri 16-Oct-20 14:31:35

Your painting is lovely purplepixie

Purplepixie Fri 16-Oct-20 16:29:56

Thank you Fevertree - painting keeps me sane.

Marydoll Fri 16-Oct-20 16:33:58

How talented you are, Purplepixie! ? I would love to be able to paint.
