Anyone else suffer from lockdown cravings?

Am I the only one who gets cravings when lockdown begins?

We are still only a few hours into this 2nd lockdown and already I want cake!

I rarely eat cake and I certainly don't usually get cravings for it (I do get cravings for crisps and occasionally chocolate though)!

I love to bake but always give away any cakes and biscuits as it invariably goes to waste but here I am craving coffee & walnut cake, or moist ginger cake or even plain sponge cake!

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Yes, fully sympathise, tried to take the edge off it by baking a Christmas cake, at least I can't eat that yet! Had to nip out for something and Simmons the bakers was next door, incredibly tempting. I resisted for now, but my self control is rapidly ebbing away!

I have had a bit of a thing for custard tarts.....time to stop it now though?

Are you anxious/stressed about the lockdown?
If the answers, yes, then your body is producing high levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Cortical increases your appetite.
If the answer is no, then you just like cake ?

Same here....?

Sodapop, the recipe was posted by Marydoll, in October.
I will see if I can find it, I did take a screen shot, and if Mary doesn't mind, I will pop it on here for you

I really, really want to make some mince pies, but I don’t allow myself until 1st Dec, or at least Advent Sunday - only because we scoff more than enough over December and into January anyway.

I did get a craving for a cinnamon bun today, but I grilled some Halloumi and tomatoes, ate those and a high protien soup- and the craving went away. I don't normally eat sugar, so I don't get cravings often, but I had been out for a walk and was hungry. I think if I regularly, high protien meals then I can beat the cravings.

lemongrove Thu 05-Nov-20 21:20:33

Witzend if I make mince pies Mr Lemongrove makes off with them the minute they’re out of the oven.
I have an urge to make some now.?

B9exchange Thu 05-Nov-20 21:37:47

I made my mincemeat yesterday, put it in jars, but if I don't put them away quickly I will be opening one already, you lot aren't helping! grin

Marmight Thu 05-Nov-20 22:21:07

Maltesers.
I know. I shouldn't buy them but they just find their way into the trolley and refuse to be put back on the shelf.

Callistemon Thu 05-Nov-20 22:48:46

Well, I pickled some beetroot today but so far haven't felt the urge to eat it.

Now, if it was a custard tart or ginger cake that might be different.
I do have some Green and Black's cocoa somewhere hmm

Ealdemodor yes!

Hetty58 Thu 05-Nov-20 22:52:47

dontmindstayinghome, yes, me too. I usually have cravings anyway, for sweet things and chocolate - but now, I seem to be very keen on chips (never really liked them before). I also seem to want a snack with every tea and coffee!

Auntieflo Fri 06-Nov-20 08:37:41

Marydoll, would you mind very much if I posted a screenshot of your recipe for Mars Bar Cake, so that Sodapop, can make some?

Although i miss my social activities, family and friends i quite like the fact that i dont have to rush in the mornings to 'be somewhere'. I am still in my pj's at the moment as all i have to do is stroll up the town and pick up my husband's medication, he is shielding, then i will wander home and i plan if the sun is still out to potter in the garden, deadhead the pansies and violas, turn the compost and generally tidy up. Had a lovely 2 hours walk yesterday with a friend so walking to town and back will suffice for today.

I crave a coffee and a nice cake in a cafe or garden centre, not take away. I try to tell myself that the pleasure will be all the greater for the wait.

FannyCornforth Fri 06-Nov-20 09:56:45

Auntieflo Come on! Show us Mary's recipe please! smile
I'm sure that she won't mind - if she does, we'll say I made you, and I'll take the blame! grin

SusieFlo Fri 06-Nov-20 10:01:03

Tea and coffee is just too wet without a biscuit smile

Everhopeful Fri 06-Nov-20 10:13:10

Mmm yes fresh cream eclairs from M&S far superior than other well known supermarkets! Thankfully (or not!) a food hall opened 5minute walk away start of lockdown 1.....?
