Our village churches have organised something similar.

Locally, we are being asked to stand on the doorstep and ring bells at 6pm on Christmas Eve. I believe both the churches are going to ring their bells at that time too.

Who knows what we will be doing that far ahead?
I guess it makes more sense than some of my neighbours standing outside on Remembrance Sunday at 11am observing the 2 minute silence!!

These days it seems it’s not good enough to just do the right thing but to be SEEN doing it!!

Not the posts I was expecting, must be me then I just thought it seemed a positive and a bit uplifting thing to do obviously got the feel of folks on here wrong
No need to apologise * notspagetti* it was just something I saw a bit of light and hope in, I m not a church goer but do love to hear carols sung and love the idea of community singing but hey ho each to their own
I don’t see your point at all jennifereccles it’s nothing to do with being seen it s about contact in these dim times when we are not allowed much contact

I think if it was an organised singing in a particular place , and if this was allowed, which is very unlikely, then I would be in favour.
I too love singing Carols and in previous years my friend and I would go to Carols in the Park in our local park ,led by the local Brass Band which was a super occasion.
It is the though of singing on my doorstep, on my own, when more than half the street wouldn’t turn out.

Totally out of character for me.

I think the bell ringing on Xmas Eve is for children who still believe in Father Christmas, well that's what it said on our village FB hub anyway. We usually have Father Christmas and his sled ( a horse and cart) accompanied by elves collecting for children's charities going around, so maybe the bell ringing is an attempt to keep the magic alive for small children.

Sounds interesting, have to think how it would work here!!

Carol singing on the doorstep is a lovely idea for those who wish to do it.

Observing the 2 minute silence is also respectful but it was the fact that some neighbours felt the need to be seen doing it rather than just standing or sitting quietly in their own homes.

I didn’t mean to imply that the carol singing was the same.

It's a great idea - I love singing Carols. Thank you for taking the trouble to post about it

I agree. I hope my bossy neighbour doesn't read about this as she'll be trying to organise the whole cul-de-sac again like she usually does

I doubt it will happen in our road and I wouldn't want to do it. The neighbours don't want to know how bad my singing is.

I cannot sing a single note in tune which kind of makes it a no no for me ! However there is a very musical family opposite so it may happen !
