Would you buy your grandchild a pooping flamingo?

I couldn’t believe it when I first saw this toy advertised. It is a flamingo, which you “feed” with some gooey stuff, then sit it on a loo and watch it poop!
No doubt kids will love it, and there will be loads of them opened on Christmas Day.
I just wonder who designed it. Imaging pitching it at a meeting!

My answer to your question would be a definite no.

There was a pooping dachshund year ago, I remember. You fed it play dough and pumped a lever up and down and it pooped. Not my cup of tea but small children would find it hilarious and don't you think they deserve a laugh after this year?

lemongrove Wed 18-Nov-20 08:47:19

No.
They deserve some good toys, (sorry to be a party pooper)?

Pantglas2 Wed 18-Nov-20 08:49:38

Yes......if I didn’t like em!

My little 5 yr old grandson would love it as he thinks anything poop related is hilarious.

Grandma70s Wed 18-Nov-20 08:54:15

No, I wouldn’t.

Well we used to have Tiny Tears?. I remember when my girls were younger there was a poop a scoop barbie and even one that was pregnant! I imagine my grandson would love a pooping flamingo! Sadly for him I wont be buying one though!

I guess young children would love one as they find anything to do with ‘poop’ hilarious. So yes I would. My DGC by the way, are way past that stage!

Witzend Wed 18-Nov-20 09:08:22

Since it’s almost certainly plastic, I probably wouldn’t, though I’m sure My Gds (4) would adore any such thing - he’s going through the lavatory-humour stage. (Having said that, maybe he takes after my father, who I don’t think ever quite grew out of it!)
Recent conversation at their house:

‘Have you had enough breakfast?’
‘Yes, poo poo bum bum.’
‘Are you sure?’
‘Yes, thank you, stink butt Mummy.’
?

lemongrove Wed 18-Nov-20 09:20:59

Sorry Witzend but I don’t find that remotely funny and am amazed it’s allowed tbh.Children only learn what’s acceptable
From the adults around them..... are we surprised that language or behaviour is bad when it’s laughed at or allowed?
A little boy calling his brother or sister that in ‘spats’ is one thing, but in answering his mother?!
I may be in the minority here, perhaps many think it’s hilarious.
Likewise with ‘pooping’ toys, children may well like them, but is that a reason to buy them? There are loads of really great toys and books out there for young ones.

No I wouldn't. I can think of better things to buy.

I saw it on ITV last night. A class of 7 year old had four toys to assess and choose their favourite. The Pooping Flamingo won.

It's only a step further than when they had dolls that wet but is it a step too far?

Tanjamaltija Wed 18-Nov-20 09:34:01

Never have I bought my children a toy that poops or pees. And I will not buy any for my grandchildren, either - whether they are dolls or animals. Google "Baby Alive"! Ugh.

In a local store I saw a box game that involved bogeys. I hope they were made of slime, that other revolting item that children seem to like to squeeze, stretch and throw at each other. Whatever happened to those lovely 'Spears' games in nice strong boxes that we spetn hours playing? (Big sigh)

Davida1968 Wed 18-Nov-20 09:38:24

I'm sure I can remember being given a little plastic toy (a chicken?) which when pressed down, "poo'd" small plastic pellets. (This was over sixty years ago.)
My objection to the flamingo mentioned here would be purely on environmental grounds- regarding the materials it's made from. In my experience, young children may often go through a "poo" stage; this really doesn't matter and it will pass! (No pun intended.)

After five minutes it will be cast aside, total waste of money far rather buy Lego

Nortsat Wed 18-Nov-20 09:40:26

My partner once bought me a battery operated pencil sharpener in the shape of a black cat. (We are a 3 cat household).
You sharpened the pencil by sticking it up the cats bum ... then the cat miaowed ...

DillytheGardener Wed 18-Nov-20 09:40:53

I have boys, but my friends with girls Tanjamaltija all were begged for the dreaded baby alive doll, that if not cleaned between each ‘movement’ became, well how shall I politely say it?, constipated blush

DillytheGardener Wed 18-Nov-20 09:43:03

Nortsat I’m in stitches ?

Callistemon Wed 18-Nov-20 09:43:49

I wouldn't like it.

But then, I'm not 7!

Philippa111 Wed 18-Nov-20 09:47:09

Kids love anything poo related as a maturational phase and scream with delight when they call each other poo and pee related names. Its healthy behaviour. However I wouldn't buy that toy, not because it poos but because I can think of many more things that would be more meaningful gifts. I gave my granddaughter a cushion that makes rude noises when you sit on it... she loved it. It wasn't expensive. The flamingo is over £30 and definitely not planet friendly.

Happysexagenarian Wed 18-Nov-20 09:47:25

Definitely not!

schnackie Wed 18-Nov-20 09:49:01

No, even though my dgs would probably love it. But the replies on this page has had me in stitches too!
