Good morning to Mick and all the gang!

It sounds as if you’re right to be worried about the crowds, Mick, but also about your health. Perhaps you could see your GP for a check up after Christmas.

Despite arriving at Lidl as it opened at 7.00 am yesterday, I was surprised to find people queuing around the car park, a sight last seen in March when we locked down for the first time. No apparent shortages as all shelves were well stocked.

Lately, DGD and DGS2 have sent me video messages which I’ve appreciated.
Last night, DGD told me that it was only three sleeps to go but afternoon naps don’t count! Lucky she told me or I might have hung up my stocking on the wrong night!! I replied with a video of my own in which I wore a jester's hat and told a joke. DD2 texted to say they liked the hat but needed the joke explaining to them!

This is the day we should have been as DS and DDiL for Christmas Dinner, but as it is we are to meet with them in Woolaton Park for a picnic, in the rain by the looks of it!! We are picking DGS up first. We haven’t seen them since last Christmas and DGS was a baby rather than a toddler, they are going to see a big difference in us all, I am a stone heavier for a start??

Good morning from a still dark E Kent. Weather iffy, probably no rain, but grumpy.
Poor you, Mic, it must have been frightening to see all those crowds.
I mentioned that DH is fixed in his habits, I managed to rattle his cage yesterday. I suggested that we should buy a sourdough loaf in a little shop, while on our morning walk. It took him about 5 minutes to reply - he always makes his own bread. Mirabile dictu, he bought one!
I Skyped GD1 yesterday, I felt she needed a bit of a confidence and attention boost. She was very chatty and told me that Iris was out ! I asked if Iris went out often, she told me it was every other day or so. Her mum sent a photo of the little girl looking most glamorous in a crushed black velvet long skirt and emerald jumper with red Christmas baubles on it! My word, she did look good!
Kent has become a lorry park, and in some places, a lavatory. Mansion isn’t far from us and as soon as the lorries start moving, we shan’t be able to leave the town due to endless caravans of lorries leaving the airport on the only, mostly single lane, road to Dover. What a shambles. Thanks Emmanuel!

Good morning Mick , Ashcombe and all to come. We are st for for a wet and windy day here in north Surrey. I fear the supermarkets will be packed over the next 2 days. Think we just need the last few fresh items so may stick to local shops for them.
I am still on a high from getting the first vaccination yesterday. Had an email from work to say go but didn’t actually believe it would happen until I was in the building and checked in. Next one is due on 12th January, I feel very fortunate but would swap my place to get my mum and dad done.
Hoping to get a short walk in with DS and DGDs even if it is raining. Was going to hand over presents but think they want to do a Boxing Day mulled wine on the drive at a distance!
DGSs are coming today as as DD has to drive to meet ex’s mum to swap presents. I suspect these meetings are happening up and down the country.
I still haven’t iced my cake either so that job needs to be done today.

I’ll do some pottering today. I’ve no shopping to do until sometime after Christmas. I can’t stand the crowds at the best of times let alone at this point in our lives.

I have an unexpected shopping trip this morning as a housebound friend just home from hospital is short of food. The carers sent me a photo of their list last night, so I must go! I've been lying awake planning my route and which shop is likely to be the least crowded. I'm not supposed to go into their house, so will sanitise it all in the car. Flippin' virus!

The situation in Kent looks awful for those poor drivers grandMattie.

We have to collect our M&S order this morning, I’ve ordered a few nice things to eat over the Christmas period.

DD is getting a little concerned about the fact that the children won’t be back in school till January 18th at the very earliest, homeschooling from the 11th. She works from home in a very busy, stressful job. How is it possible to work with four children including a one year old in the house? I’m trying not to worry for her but it’s difficult.

DH is still shingling on, the rash looks really angry now but is beginning to blister.

Good morning Mick and the GM team from east London, where it is still very dark.

We have our final groceries delivery today, with the turkey and the veg, so I hope everything is ok.

Our neighbour appeared at the door yesterday with a Christmas basket, continuing chocolates, sparking grape juice, chocolate biscuits and other treats. It was so kind but quite embarrassing.
This is the second gift that has caught us on the hop. A friend sent us an Afternoon Tea Box, with all the contents for a lovely tea: cake, scones, clotted cream, jam, mince pies, sparking grape juice etc etc.
We have got so many treats, we will have to redistribute some of them, but as we can’t see most of the family, I think we’ll be enjoying them for quite a while.
I am trying hard to maintain some semblance of healthy eating ... and I am definitely not complaining ... everyone has been very kind.

I hope Cherry and Maryd had a restful night. Wishing Iris and family a happy time in the run up to Christmas. Thinking of the GNs with illness, worry or poorly family members. Good morning gilly.

It feels cold here in the Scottish Borders.
I popped in to our community shop for milk and fruit and was told there was a hamper for me "from the family" . Such a lovely surprise.
The shops here are only closed for one day so I can't understand queues.
My swollen face from the abscess is a bit better this morning since I've been on antiBs. But my dentist has gone private since I was last there and wants to charge me nearly £400 to take my tooth out and give me a filling!

Good morning Mick and all. It is dark and dry at the moment here on the S Welsh coast. Good news that Iris has been out and about grandMattie that will have lifted the spirits for all of you. I iced our cake last night, did some rough snow peaks on top which Mr Lins said looked more like slush.
Hope Cherry and Marydollwill have a better day today. Thinking of all those with pain, worry and dashed Christmas plans. Take care everyone ?

Good morning from Malta. Weather much the same, damp but warm.

Last night there was an earthquake off Sicily which was felt in many parts of Malta. I didn’t feel a thing! All we need now is a plague of locusts.

Forty years ago today, whilst on holiday visiting my mum who lived in Malta, I met the man who became my husband and soulmate.

Mick your day sounded stressful yesterday. Maybe stay closer to home for the time being.

At the nail salon yesterday someone came in without a mask and proceeded to natter away, not keeping her distance. I felt more and more anxious until I had a quiet word with the owner who asked the girl to put her mask on.

Today I need to take my car for it’s first MOT as it is now five years old. Tax and insurance due next month, an expense I could do without really, but I’m not ready to give up the car yet so needs must.

granMattie, I saw all the lorries parked at Manston on the news. Many a time we passed there on our way to Broadstairs where my sister lived. Glad to hear Iris is out and about already.

Dwm congrats on your vaccination! Are you the first good morninger to get the jab I wonder?

Spoke to DGD yesterday. She’s excited about Christmas but little does she know that on Boxing Day she and her mum are flying to Washington DC to see her Aunty (DD1). Then she and DD1 are flying to LA and driving back to DC together. DD1 has to go and collect some of her personal possessions which she left in storage since her job in DC was temporary, but they have now asked her to stay on permanently so needs her stuff.

It will be a lovely adventure for the two of them, DD2 (mum of DGD) is not going with them as she has to be back in Florida for work.

Needless to say, I shall worry. Wish I could go with them. I love a road trip.?

Good morning everyone from a still dark Essex by the sea. The forecast says rain, again.
DD2 had her mole removed yesterday and was home by early afternoon. Now the wait for the biopsy results. Taking it easy and no lifting for the next few days, luckily 12 year old DGD is a big help especially with her nearly 3 year old sister.
DD1 rang last night, quite upset, as the only thing they had planned as a family has had to be cancelled because of torrential rain forecast for today. She has rebooked for the 2nd January but fears they may be in lockdown by then.
I too feel for all the lorry drivers stuck outside Dover, hopefully things may change for them today.

Pressed post far too soon, finger/stylus slip!

Things to get ready this morning as DS is coming to pick things up through the 'airlock' of my porch. I have a very large bag of presents for them plus a bag of goodies - homemade mince pies, sausage rolls and Christmas cake, plus a tub of chocolates. It will be nice to see him, albeit through glass. The first Christmas apart - although I have just remembered that they spent one Christmas in Sweden with his partner's family.

Then this afternoon DS-in-law will be picking me up to spend Christmas with them, dropping the cats off at the cattery on the way. Must tidy the house up before I go. I cooked them a ham yesterday, and they will get that plus the same goodies as DS.

Spent a pleasant afternoon yesterday watching the film 'High Society', which I love, and then watched the recent Peter Rabbit. It has cleared a bit of space on my tv box to record programmes over Christmas.

There are so many visitors in my town. They are so easy to spot. One pub is only allowing locals in, interestingly. But people are wearing masks and being careful and the atmosphere is good.

My 5 year old is coming for the day today. Last time she helped me make the axolotl. See pics. Strangest thing ever.

I’m worried about you Mick and your reluctance to get medical advice. I fully understand as I used to be like that, but now we are older we need to look after ourselves. You just need to ring your surgery explain your symptoms reminding them of your diabetes and ask for a telephone appointment. I know I may sound rather bossy but needs must.

Grammaretto that sounds an awful lot of money. I too go to a private dentist and think an extraction was about £175 and a filling under £100. Perhaps you need to check prices with other private dentists.

I could have written the same about my DD baubles most of my conversation with her yesterday was around about the delay in schools returning and the home schooling required. Let’s hope it’s not for too long ..
