ACCOUNT HACKED

I just had my Sainsburys account hacked last night. Someone had accessed my online shopping account, ordered groceries at a total of £290.33 with delivery to an address 680 miles away from my home address. I'm hoping I have sorted everything out now. What a stress it has caused though. Puts you off online shopping.

Oh no Berysgranny, that’s just awful, I hope you get it sorted and your money back soon , How on earth do they get in to your shopping account , is nothing safe. ?

That’s very concerning Berylsgranny. They must have altered the address and your email as you usually get email notification of order confirmation and then of delivery. I hope you have it all sorted and if I were you I would get a new debit/credit card as well.

The thing that amazes me is that we had this once with a credit card but nobody went round to the address over 100 miles away which was having items delivered on the back of my credit card. The credit card company just refunded me but unless the receivers are called to account they will just continue.

I will change my password on my Sainsbury’s account to a more secure one.

Sainsburys did alert me through our email address last night minutes after the scam order was placed and confirmed our NEW home delivery address which as I said was 680 miles away. This was what prompted us of the scam. I have now deleted my account totally from Sainsbury but my fear is that the scammers have all my credit card details which I'm now trying to sort out.

That's a pain Berylsgranny seems like nothing is safe from from criminal activity now. I hope you get things sorted out quickly. Good luck.

I can't believe that they have given a delivery address! I hope that Sainsbury's will have the police on their doorstep pdq.

I once had a lot of money removed from my credit card - they actually used some of it to pay their council tax - so there was there address and LA reference number. We got out money back from the bank, but they admitted they did not pursue the very obvious route of telling the police so they could round them up - they said it was not worth it!

Which is why I don't do online banking. It only takes one small mistake at the receiving end.
Hackers are always one step ahead ! Nothing's safe to my mind.

What a worry for you Berylsgranny !
Unlike other websites you can’t unattach your credit card details if you are receiving grocery deliveries regularly as there is always a payment pending.
I unattach my credit card from sites like Amazon in between orders.

Sainsburys were not in the least bit interested re scam delivery address which surprised me. It is just so disturbing.

I’ve done online banking for years with no concerns, but couple of months ago someone used our credit card to pay for Disney Plus, which was a bit disconcerting. I like online banking because you can check accounts frequently, and quickly spot if there is something untoward.

Regardless of internet banking most people use debit/credit cards these days, and difficult not to use on line if you can’t get to the shops. Fraudsters are probably having a field day in the present climate.

Never save online passwords.
Take a note of them and change it as well.

I was told by the local police that they usually aren't informed about this type of fraud (even with an address). This is because the financial loss is the end business who don't want to appear loose with their security systems.

The loss of money is less important to them than the loss of reputation.

Berylsgranny Sat 02-Jan-21 10:29:11

I did some research and seemingly Sainsburys have quite a bad reputation for this, although obviously they won't be acknowledging that. I have closed my account with them and certainly won't be doing anymore online shopping with them. I will also re-assess all other online accounts.

Yes, the same happened to me and goods sent to two different addresses plus a monthly subscription to a TV channel!
The credit card companies just write this off, the Fraud Squad is overwhelmed and nothing is done.
