I have just read this piece on the front of Gransnet and was interested to see that Welsh names were listed under Names around the World. The Welsh not included with " us" so I am led to believe!!!!!!!!

Not sure of the purpose of this thread, the front bit isn't showing for me but we are nanny and grandad, despite one adult child declaring that grandma is a relative, nanny is the hired help lol

The Welsh are probably not included because the names used are different to England - Mamgu and Tadcu in the South, and Nain and Taid in the north are the most traditional, and still in very common use.

Never heard of Mamgu and Tadcu. My grandchildren and Cardiff friends have a Nans and a Bampi, though my daughter in law had a Nana.

Really, that surprises me, my in-laws are Mamgu and Tadcu to their grandchildren, and I know a few others too, particularly in the Valleys. There are lots of derivatives in Wales as well I know, my husbands parents were called Nangi and Bampa. I suppose it’s the same as in England though with Nana, Nan, Nanny etc.

My 3yo GS calls me Grandarse - at least that’s what it sounds like!!! I think I need words with his parents!!

You're right.
I think it's odd to have not put the Welsh with the English. I know it's another language but it's hardly "around the world".
