Geordie , absolutely no contest.

Oh the French definitely followed by the Irish accent.
I'm originally from Belfast. I hate the Belfast accent.

I have a student with a wonderful French accent. Girls haven't discovered him yet, but when they do he's going to be a very popular young man.

I love a Scottish accent. Also like Brummie. Not keen on Norfolk, sadly, as I have a Norfolk accent.

Scottish especially Sean Connery. <swoon>

Thank you, thank you, thank you! smile
I clicked on this thread with a heavy heart, expecting the usual miserable comments about my accent (Black Country / Brummie).
But no!
Thank you Trendynannie thanks and GagaJo thanks

French for me,too. Some ones I find difficult to cope with. I was on a cruise for a few weeks with a lot of Americans and when we got off it was such a relief because the ones on there were so,so loud.

From Belfast, I hate the Belfast accent, sounds so stupid, also hate the Irish one . Italian is my favourite.

BlueSky Fri 05-Feb-21 11:28:43

French accent, followed by a Southern Irish one!

My lovely sil is a geordie, I love his accent?

I like Ken Bruce's gentle Scottish accent, also Welsh. There are very few which I actively dislike but I'm not going to mention them.

Interesting to note that city accents are hard and guttural and country accents are soft and rolling like the hills! Think of Liverpool v Devon for example.

I quite like a Polish accent for some reason. There are some Scottish accents I like and some I find really annoying. Must be the regional difference. Generally it depends on the person's voice and the way they speak as to whether I like their accent.

Grandma70s Fri 05-Feb-21 11:35:32

I like RP myself. Does that count?

I quite like very mild Scottish, like Andrew Marr or Michael Gove. (Not that I like Michael Gove in general.)

Ngaio1 Fri 05-Feb-21 11:36:57

South African. French accents are a delight as is Italian. Don't like guttural (German/East European) ones. Cannot stand Geordie, Brummie or most Northern ones. Possibly because my hearing is not brilliant and I find them difficult to understand!

EllanVannin Fri 05-Feb-21 11:38:04

Anything but Liverpool.

GagaJo Fri 05-Feb-21 11:39:00

Northumberland accent is nice. Geordie less so.

Grandma70s Fri 05-Feb-21 11:44:01

If we’re doing dislikes, I find Essex or Kent very hard to listen to. It’s not just northern accents that people find unpleasant.

Susiewong65 Fri 05-Feb-21 11:48:52

I like the Northumberland accent and the Cornish accent.
Currently enjoying the Cornish fishing series of programmes so I can listen to it.

cornishpatsy Fri 05-Feb-21 11:49:59

I cannot think of any that I do not like although Kent is a bit dull.

Love Irish, Welsh and Yorkshire.

When speaking English for me it's:
Dublin
Mid Wales

When speaking their own language;
Italian

I think all English/Irish/Scottish and Welsh accents are wonderful and they are what make our country unique. Where can you go in the world where the accent will change just a few miles down the road. So many people judge others by their accent and it's such a pity and let's face it - if everyone spoke with RP then most many people would 'tune out' to many conversations.

nadateturbe Fri 05-Feb-21 12:18:13

Not just me then Kircubbin.

timetogo2016 Fri 05-Feb-21 12:24:38

Black country/Brummie.
Especially as i am a Brummie and dh has a black country accent .
My family really struggle to understand him which is hilarious.

TerriBull Fri 05-Feb-21 12:31:38

French absolutely love it! Then Italian, Spanish particularly as spoken by Latin Americans, there is a difference. I like Welsh and southern Irish.
