Does anyone else have a ‘help me get through this ‘ Mantra?

I had one when our daughter was very ill, it was part of a song
‘Everything’s gonna be all right, everything’s gonna be ok’ it went round and round in my head and kept me from thinking of the worse case scenario.

Recently I heard that Clint Eastwood says every morning ‘Don’t let the old man in’ to himself.
Toby Keith wrote a song about it (it was used in a Clint Eastwood film) and another line was ‘ if you didn’t know when you were born , how old would you be?’
My new Mantra is now ‘Don’t let the old woman in’ I dread being the person who naps in the afternoon because she’s getting on a bit and then slows down.
Obviously if I’m ill and need a sleep that’s a different matter, but I’m not going to act like an old woman until I’m unable to move around and do things.

So p, just wait until lockdown ends, I’m not going to act my age, just the age in my head. Better warn the family I guess.

Oops where did that stray P come from? Sorry

I think I’ve become a student, not an old woman.

Staying up late, drinking endless coffee, eating whatever is in the cupboard, indulging in debate, devouring books, wearing nothing but jeans and sweatshirts.

By my lifestyle I’m about nineteen.

I know, if DH tells me to get off of the roof one more time I will be very cross.

I try to tell myself, "Come on, you can get through this - you've been through much worse" and mostly it works. If not, I'll allow myself a little wallow. Then, "Get on with it, there's bound to be a solution."

Sounds as though your talking about me Peasblossom. I'm the same....still 20 in my head. Pink hair pierced nose and small tattoo at 69 but loving life!

If you cannot change the situation change your attitude to it.

I believe that worrying about something will not change it so why worry.

Oopsadaisy1 Mon 08-Feb-21 15:14:53

Lauranorder that’s for another thread under Health!

When I had to suddenly leave my job (bullying, so my choice) I was in a right state and repeating to myself many times a day ‘All is well, all is well, all manner of things shall be well’ really helped, it almost put me in a state of self hypnosis.

LucyLocket55 Mon 08-Feb-21 15:31:53

Meant to say ‘not my choice’

When dh was undergoing open heart surgery my mantra was “Hold the Line” and I use it now.

Cornish pasty, I tell myself that, over and over, but it doesn`t always work

This too will pass.
Is a mantra that goes through my head, along with face your demons.

I sing the Bob Marley song Three Little Birds

Here are the lyrics I know, and then I just hum ...

Don't worry, about a thing
'Cause every little thing, gonna be all right
Singin', don't worry, about a thing
'Cause every little thing, gonna be all right

smile

Although the latest one seemed to be "We're getting fed up with this now".

I think I’ve become a student, not an old woman.
What's worse, I seem to be getting spots.
