I need something to stimulate me in these grim times and keep me going and I read about the cold water challenge and am giving it a go
The idea is that a blast of cold water 30,40,50 or 60 secs when you have your morning shower stimulates everything including your brain and is very good for you I decided to give it a go I ve only so far done the 30 seconds but intend to work up after a week
It’s horrendous at first and feels so completely icy it takes your breathe away I then have my normal hot shower and I ve got to report that it completely exhilarates me and I feel ready for the day
I d be interested to know if anyone else is doing it

Not brave enough Bluebelle - the shock could kill me ?

Polarbear2 Sun 21-Feb-21 09:20:43

You go for it Bluebell ?. Let us know how it goes. We’re right behind you ?

Calendargirl Sun 21-Feb-21 09:23:12

I have an evening shower.

No desire to have an icy shock then, more a relaxing prelude to donning my dressing gown and slippers.

?

Oh no no with my blood pressure! I could faint! shock

I read years ago (probably in some daft woman's magazine) that French ladies give their bosums a daily dousing with ice cold water. It keeps them perky and toned apparently.

Bellasnana Sun 21-Feb-21 09:28:43

No thanks! As for perky bosoms FannyC, that ship sailed a long time ago for me.?

Crikey bluebelle I think that something ‘stimulating’ should be nice and looked forward to, not something that you dread.
DD2 is learning a foreign language so I think I’d rathe go down that route.

BlueBelle Sun 21-Feb-21 09:29:39

Ohh I m looking forward to perky bosoms Fanny I once had a boyfriend who called them pinky and perky not sure what he’d call them now ??

Oopsadaisy1 Sun 21-Feb-21 09:33:04

Flip and flop?

FannyCornforth Sun 21-Feb-21 09:35:31

BlueBelle I feel a thread coming on...

One of my daughters swims in the sea most mornings with friends. They reckon one of the benefits is that it helps prevent Alzheimers. I told them I think they must already have it!

Quick way to a heart attack in my book, deffo one to give a miss.

My grandson, a fitness instructor, recommends this - I think you're supposed to finish with the cold water, not continue to hot! I've only progressed to lukewarm so far.

Ellianne Sun 21-Feb-21 09:43:19

Yes, MrsEggy, I always thought the cold bit should come at the end.

Redhead56 Sun 21-Feb-21 09:45:39

It’s a no from me I hate the cold no good for my joints but go for it by all means.

Amberone Sun 21-Feb-21 10:20:11

I've had a cold rinse after washing my hair in the shower for years. It flattens the hair shafts and stops your hair from tangling and helps it shine. I turn the water down gradually until it's really cold. Has to be done in a warm bathroom though!

grumppa Sun 21-Feb-21 10:22:18

A cold shower to round off the hot shower after games was compulsory at my prep. school, and a cold shower every morning was compulsory at my next school, unless a beaker of cold water had frozen overnight. Put me off for life,

grandmajet Sun 21-Feb-21 10:33:07

Yikes! No thanks!

rockgran Sun 21-Feb-21 10:33:57

I cant think of anything worse!

Maggiemaybe Sun 21-Feb-21 11:03:13

I’m tempted to give it a go. Some of my school’s old girls’ group who still live by the North Sea swim in it every single day, and claim it has health benefits. A few minutes under a cold shower in a warm bathroom sounds ever so slightly easier. I have poor circulation, and this might help.

I am a bit of a wuss though.

BlueBelle Sun 21-Feb-21 11:14:16

I read up and you can do it either way round cold at the start or at the finish
It really does make me feel exhilarated and up for the day
If can help my brain and immune system as they say it does
I m good to go

Maggiemaybe I have a friend goes in every day too
I have done the Christmas Day swim in the North Sea a good few times but not since I hit my 70 s Give this a try I haven’t any heating, so no warm bathroom for me

vampirequeen Sun 21-Feb-21 11:18:21

I gradually turn the heat down. I don't think I could do it all at one go. The shock from hot to cold is too painful.

timetogo2016 Sun 21-Feb-21 11:19:01

Hell would have to freeze over before i would even attempt it.

A group of ladies in Edinburgh have a quick swim in the sea at Portabello beach most mornings , they raised money for charity , but then kept going after the challenge was over
