Census questions

Just filled in my census form, what a palaver, irrelevant and intrusive questions.
What is the difference between asking about ethnic origins and asking about future skin colour of baby (h and m).
People always ask questions about future babies; will they have long eyelashes like their dad or red hair like their mum.
Nobody would actually have cared what colour Archie’s skin was; it was probably just a throw away question like the previous examples.
What a fuss about nothing.

Goodness - can any thread escape? ????

Two entirely separate issues: one a question about ethnic origins for statistical purposes; the other, speculation on a child's likely skin colour.

What's the purpose of this thread?

A shame that this thread is not actually about the census, it could have been interesting

Is there a rota?? Oh, we haven't had a M&H thread for 4 hours, who's next up?

With a prize for best disguise.

First time I have ever seen someone start a thread and manage to go off topic in their original post! I think this deserves a ‘Scope Creep’ award. Maybe it’s an entry in a competition to create the most obscure connection to that interview?

I’m beginning to wonder if I’m the only one who found the census quick and easy to do. I didn’t find it intrusive. When the question was voluntary, I didn’t answer it. I hesitated a bit about nationality, because I’d like to have said European, but I have always said I was British before, so that’s what I put.

Silversurf: A very interesting point.
On one hand were asked to name out ethnic origin and then on the other that colour doesn't matter! Crazy world. Ditto the other groups we're asked to subscribe to on the form.

Where on the Census form does it say that colour doesn't matter?

Could we perhaps have a thread where one poster posts a title eg Sweet potatoes and then the following poster provides a comment which brings in some aspect of the interview and posts the next topic like Summertime and so on. We could put it on the Games forum ?

I found the census form simple to complete and not intrusive. I could answer the questions in the way I wanted.

EllanVannin Wed 10-Mar-21 18:21:26

It was very easy to fill in with nothing that couldn't be answered. I don't know what the fuss is about ?

Franbern Wed 10-Mar-21 18:25:08

I found the census very easy to complete, In fact I was very surprised that there were not many more questions. I t is important to have good, accurate information on the diversity of our population.

The question on religion - interesting, this is one that so many people often think should have silly (amusing) answers - so will always get a small percentage of Jeddi, etc.
If you do not have and /or practice any religion it is important to just tick the NONE box. In the last census there was a very large percentage rise in the number stating this - and it is important to know this. .

As someone who has used censuses for research I would urge everyone who feels able to fill in the census form as completely and honestly as possible. It’s so useful for historical accuracy.
