Following on from the enjoyable thread about rubbish books,

Was wondering what really hyped up films you have seen and thought , what was so great about that.
Mine are
The Favourite
Groundhog Day
Lost in Translation
Cannot think of any more at the moment but I’m sure there are quite a few more.

Lala Land massively over hyped all those Oscars shock I remember thinking it looked good from the trailer, but I suppose they pretty much contain all the best bits.

JaneJudge Tue 16-Mar-21 18:44:27

God yes, La la land - what on earth! I rolled my eyes so much I was dizzy

Lucca Tue 16-Mar-21 18:47:26

I’ll be very unpopular but The greatest showman left me cold. Ok Hugh Jackman is nice to look at but....

M0nica Tue 16-Mar-21 18:51:26

M. Hulot's Holiday, an immensely boring mime film featuring Jacques Tati

And, dare I say it, Brief Encounter, laughably over dramatised and over acted story of a very brief affair that never happened.

MerylStreep Tue 16-Mar-21 18:56:50

Plan 9 from outer space. Soooo bad, it was good.

The Mamma Mia films - the music is fun but the 'plots', and I use that term loosely, were excruciating.

Cats - I mean...huh?

Agree with the Favourite - women exploiting other women.

Interstellar - two hours of dust and weirdness.

Jen65 Tue 16-Mar-21 19:09:03

Might be unpopular, but I'm not a fan of the Mary Poppins films.

Sara1954 Tue 16-Mar-21 19:38:52

Lala land was dreadful, only watched about half an hour, and that was half an hour too much.

Calendargirl Tue 16-Mar-21 20:03:05

I hated Mamma Mia- forced to watch it on dvd with GD.

NellG Tue 16-Mar-21 20:17:15

Such heresy Jen65! ?

Kate1949 Tue 16-Mar-21 20:38:13

La La Land
Les Miserables
I haven't seen Cats but the stage show was dire.

BlueSapphire Tue 16-Mar-21 21:54:21

Another one here who absolutely hated The Greatest Showman. A dreadful film, I just failed to understand what people raved about. Lord of the Rings, hours of utter boredom. Plus any western film that DH took me to; I constantly fell asleep!

grandmajet Tue 16-Mar-21 21:56:50

I tried to watch a Harry Potter film, I really tried! It was just awful.

Casdon Tue 16-Mar-21 21:58:12

Titanic - absolutely predictable.

grandmajet Tue 16-Mar-21 21:58:35

I fell asleep in Skyfall, and left the cinema during The Man Who Fell to Earth.

GrannyRose15 Tue 16-Mar-21 22:45:26

"Close Encounters of the Third Kind" - the most excruciatingly boring film of all time.

GrannyRose15 Tue 16-Mar-21 22:46:27

Casdon

Titanic - absolutely predictable.

Oh that's brilliant, Casdon grin grin grin

tinaf1 Tue 16-Mar-21 22:59:26

It’s a Wonderful Life ducks behind the sofa?

Blossoming Tue 16-Mar-21 23:08:00

Me too tina but Mr. B loves it.

Cloverfield, gave up after 10 minutes.

tinaf1 Wed 17-Mar-21 15:00:42

Casdon ?
So glad I’m not the only one Blossoming every Christmas someone starts gushing over it and I just keep thinking why??‍♀️

Callistemon Wed 17-Mar-21 15:11:27

Casdon

Titanic - absolutely predictable.

?

I wasn't keen on the Greatest Showman either, although Hugh Jackman is very easy on the eye.

Harry Potter films
James Bond films
Mamma Mia films
The Favourite

I haven't seen Cats but the stage show was dire. I can't look at them, they make me shudder, Kate1949

Some of the others listed I haven't seen but I'll take your words for it.

gulligranny Wed 17-Mar-21 15:12:19

American Beauty
Lost In Translation
Lincoln
Lord of the Rings - all those blasted battles!
The most recent version of Little Women, so badly miscast in every role
The Red Shoes
2001 A Space Odyssey
Muriel's Wedding

Callistemon Wed 17-Mar-21 15:15:03

Oh yes, American Beauty

I liked the Hobbit but not the rest of the trilogy.

Callistemon Wed 17-Mar-21 15:15:57

Sorry - not the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The Hobbit is a separate book.
