Gagging order?

What more can the press dig up on Meghan and Harry?

How convenient all this is for the Royal Family as it's really taking the focus off what is really bad - that pending case with alleged underage sex scandal with Prince Andrew. I expect he is breathing huge sighs of relief everyday. I feel that the press have been issued a gagging order about this

I shouldn't think there's anything convenient at all about the "alleged underage sex scandal with Prince Andrew", and if the interview has taken focus away from it that's down to H&M as it wouldn't have happened if not for the interview.

The A of C has finally stated that the wedding watched by millions was the wedding, and about time too IMO.

The RF aren't responsible for any media coverage or lack of it. If they were or had any influence whatsoever, I doubt the interview would have been broadcast on ITV.

There is nothing for the media to report regarding Andrew

Smileless2012 Wed 31-Mar-21 10:55:44

That's true Annie although I did read yesterday I think, that he'd been seen horse riding at Windsor with 2 female companions but that's hardly newsworthy is it.

Anniebach Wed 31-Mar-21 11:00:19

Really Smileless ? it wasn’t breaking news , two females ?
shocking

maddyone Wed 31-Mar-21 11:02:42

I agree with Smileless. There’s nothing ‘convenient’ at all about Prince Andrew’s alleged sex scandal. If Harry and Meghan hadn’t done the interview, then there’d be nothing to potentially remove any focus from Prince Andrew.
In this country we have a free press. The press is not gagged on behalf of the RF or anyone else. The write what they like within the law.

I'm not sure how things work in the RF but in any large "firm" there are offices and people dealing with individual issues in a compartmentalised manner
The Prince Andrew debacle stands alone. I don't think anyone else in the RF is implicated, or overly concerned.
The M & H issue could also have stood alone, but by Meghan mentioning a fair few RF names in her interview she has complicated things for the family immensely.

To my mind, they are two separate issues and there is no connection between them.

One has serious legal implications and the other is descending into farce.

Smileless2012 Wed 31-Mar-21 13:50:48

I agree merlotgran.

True.

Notwithstanding, one has employed a world leading PR firm to make sure things are kept in the public eye.

We now 100% know Meg was not speaking the truth when she said they married three days before the wedding ceremony, how do we know ? Because she would have declared to the world they are suing the Arch Bishop.

Smileless2012 Wed 31-Mar-21 14:11:49

I wonder if their PR firm will be issuing a statement now the
A of C has finally set the record straight.

There isn't any new news on Andrew for there to be a gagging order on. He was asked to go voluntarily to the US to tell investigators what he knew about a case which a friend/acquaintance was involved in. He declined. Girls in a state of the US, above the age of consent in the UK, but just below it in that state, have said that they were procured for his delectation by the said acquaintance/friend, but no charges have been brought.

His mother wasn't pleased with him for his links with the sordid affair and took what action was open to her to show this - she sacked him from the family firm and stripped him of his positions and perks. As he is well over 21 she has no more power over him than any other mother over a full-grown son. If the US legal system wishes to force him to attend a police station in the States, it is up to them to make it happen.

Everyone is free to think what they like of his attitude, morals, and common sense, and the media are free to publish anything of which they have proof. If they have no proof, they run the risk of being sued for libel. No need for a gag.

From the title I thought this was going to be about something much more interesting!

Chardy Wed 31-Mar-21 16:00:59

Got to disagree about a free press. We have individuals who relentlessly picked on, we have major scandals that receive all but no publicity. The main media outlets are owned by a small group of people. I can but surmise that they are pulling the strings (and skewing voting patterns too?)

Elegran Wed 31-Mar-21 16:09:49

The owners of the large media empires are media moguls, though, with their own individual financial and political agendas. Not quite the same as gagging orders imposed by government or state powers.

Elegran Wed 31-Mar-21 16:11:48

Their main aim, too, is selling copies, which they achieve by pushing sensational headlines.

M0nica Wed 31-Mar-21 16:32:00

Prince Andrew and his unsavoury behaviour and his links with Ghislaine Maxwell are in the papers most days. But he is not actually doing anything nefarious in this way at the moment that we know of, and the Ghislaine Maxwell trial is not until the summer, so everything in British terms is sub judice.

Essentially there is nothing much to report at present, but he will undoubtedly get pages of coverage once the trial starts. I certainly have no sense of the press being 'gagged'. I doubt that is possible either here or in other countries.

Now, talking of gags, could someone please literally gag the US branch of the family. If I see any more pictures in the papers of either or both simpering for the photographers while claiming they just want a private life, I will probably throw up.

Their goodbye message when they left -

The caption read: "As we can all feel, the world at this moment seems extraordinarily fragile. Yet we are confident that every human being has the potential and opportunity to make a difference—as seen now across the globe, in our families, our communities and those on the front line—together we can lift each other up to realise the fullness of that promise.

I particularly loved the reference to family when both of them have either severed ties or done possibly irreparable damage to their relationship with the oh so important family.

Hypocritical is a word which could have been tailor made for those two.

merlotgran Wed 31-Mar-21 17:20:21

Apparently, one of Meghan's 'Suits' co stars, DB Woodside, whoever he is, has urged the Royal Family to back off and apologise to Meghan, adding that they're 'messing with the wrong woman'!

As I said upthread, it really is descending into farce. grin

eazybee Wed 31-Mar-21 17:55:09

Then they need to sue pretty quickly for misrepresentation, otherwise it might be assumed they were telling lies.

Smileless2012 Wed 31-Mar-21 17:57:42

I saw that and it made me laugh merlotgran I think it's more a case of she messing with the wrong family.

Ellianne Wed 31-Mar-21 18:07:32

it really is descending into farce.
Did someone say farce? She stoops to conquer?
