Has died. How sad. How young. RIP.

No matter how much of an extended family her boys have, their mum’s death will be a defining event in their lives. My heart goes out to them.I wonder if it’s possible for her to be given a posthumous dame hood? She must have done that interview on GMB knowing her passing would give the Princes trust lots of publicity., so even when she was so ill she was thinking if others.

I hope the children have grandparents, my grandchildren were
17,19 and 24 when my darling daughter died,

I have just listened to Helen on Desert Island Discs and she mentioned that she had sore throat. She had a great sense of humour and spoke so fondly of her family. RIP Helen McCrory.

Damien Lewis has written a wonderful piece in the Times. She told her children 'not to be sad as she was going to snuff it because she had had the life she wanted and to make sure Daddy has lots of girlfriends'!

Very sad - her children only just teenagers so will be very hard for them although I'm sure their Dad will be a huge support, even though grieving himself. My Mum was only 51 when she died of bowel cancer in 1974 I was only 20 and had just had my first child. I coped by pushing my grief to the back of my mind and not facing up to it, but a lifetime of depression was the inevitable result.

Sorry to hijack this thread but can someone tell me why when I try to open a thread it just goes full page and does not let me comment. I wanted to comment on a post about someone who’s date ask her to lend her £20

Not sure why you can’t comment, as you have obviously joined GN as you are able to post.
Can you not go onto the comment/ message box at the bottom?
I would e Mail HQ if still a problem.

Very sad, no one knew she had cancer, such a dreadful disease. A great loss, a great actress.

Loislovesstewie Sun 18-Apr-21 05:35:47

I feel for her children. My mum died when I was younger than these two children, my mum was in her 40s, the pain of losing her has followed me all my life. I wish I could send those two children a big hug.

Very sad news. So very hard for her husband and children and her family and friends.

Saw a National Theatre production of Medea with her in the title role which was beamed across to our local cinema pre Covid. Powerful stuff.

You did a great job, Helen. Thank you.

I haven’t seen any of her work, but that is so sad. Far too young ?

Yorki Sat 17-Apr-21 20:08:44

Yes, I feel very sad at Helen McCrorys death. I only knew her from Peaky Blinders, but she was only 52 bless her. Was she poorly whilst filming Peaky Blinders? I wonder how long she'd suffered from Cancer, and even if she was aware she had it. Poor lady, whatever the reason, its still very sad. She was a very good actress.

AGAA4 Sat 17-Apr-21 16:43:36

She was a very good actress. Shocked when I heard she had died. She had kept her illness quiet.

@HipPyChick57 that’s what I thought, Draco Malfoy’s mother, wasn’t she? I believe she liked acting roles where there was a dark side to the character. She will be much missed, a great actress.

Lovely tributes from her husband and many others. Life is so unfair.

Buffy Sat 17-Apr-21 11:58:27

MayBee70 I feel the same as you. Lovely couple, so happy as a mother and a great actress. Tragic.

Aepgirl Sat 17-Apr-21 11:47:11

I don’t recognise her as an actress, but death at such a young age is tragic.

Dylant1234 Sat 17-Apr-21 11:44:36

If I saw that she was in a film or TV programme I’d watch it as I knew it’d be good and worth watching. She just got better and better through her career, very sad, especially for her teenage children.

Charleygirl5 Sat 17-Apr-21 11:35:00

Like BlueBelle I also have never heard of her or her husband but 52 is no age at which to die.

Albangirl14 Sat 17-Apr-21 11:28:06

She went to Queenswood School and has been very generous towards the school.

ayokunmi1 Sat 17-Apr-21 11:24:29

@Grannynannywanny

Very dignified you would never have guessed.
I saw the clip as well.
May she RIP

Shinamae Sat 17-Apr-21 11:15:33

4allweknow Sat 17-Apr-21 11:14:46

So sad. Great loss for the acting world, terrible loss for her Husband and children.

Peff68 Sat 17-Apr-21 11:11:20

I’d forgotten she was Cherrie Blair, brilliant exactly as I’d imagine she would be and loved her as the aunt in peaky RIP
