Do your cars have personal names? We had one whose number plate included BLR and he was a very masculine big round -shouldered car called Blair.

Another is routinely called "The Sewing Machine" because of her busy little sounds.

DH's is called The Mistake!!

We only have a black Peugeot 107 and because it’s so small we all call it ‘the bubble’. That said, 3 of us are up to the West Highlands again in it next month so it serves us well enough!

My Campervan is fondly known as My van the terrible!

Good point Puzzler.

I've had Cilla. She was my first car and I cried when she died. Then came Daisy, Betty and Vi (our campervan). Now we have Bert (short for Bertha).

My first car, which I bought from my brother when he got a company car, was Diggory.
Then came: Clover, Molly, Lucy-Wucy, Rattletrap, Slumdog and Fancy Pants. Fancy Pants's other name is Yetzi.

I call my car petroholic as it drinks petrol like crazy.

I had a little white Mini when I was about 20. The reg began with PKL so obviously he was Pickle.

My first car was a Morris 1000 convertible and after an accident had to be repainted. I chose a bright Ferrari yellow and it became my Flying Peanut!

My cars have always had names. Piaf was my little brown Metro which I had for years.
My present car is Lady Gaga. Just because I like her.

Mine is Yankee Tango because those are the Nato alphabet codes for the first letters of her licence plate.

Years ago we had a rather trying Ford Escort. The letters were DPX, so it became 'de poxy motorcar'.

ninathenana Tue 04-May-21 11:21:49

My first car's reg. was WDY affectionately known as woody
Current one is Yousef which is also derived from the reg.
I've had 4-5 in between but the were not named

Once had a bright orange Beetle known as The Flying Fart - because of the noises it made. I’m now driving Kitty because she’s a cat.

Ours was a FordClassic 315 which we bought in 1963. We named her "Betsy".
She stood us in good stead for 35 years and when we finally had to part with her and she was bought by a collector.
Her number plate has stayed in the family and is now on my granddaughters car.
We went to many Classic Car shows around the UK and I wrote this poem and put it in the front windscreen for those who were curious about her. I used to say she had more rub ups than I ever had. LOL

Ode to Betsy.

A few details of my history may be of interest to you.
I came into existence in 1962.
I’m a four door Ford Classic 315
With a very large boot and a column drive.
I have been with my family for 36 years
Sharing good times and bad as well as their fears.
They christened me “Betsy” from the very first day
When they chose me as theirs and drove me away.
Curiosity from youngsters wondering what I could be
Conversation with the elderly who could remember me.
And I may say with all modesty and very much pride
Three times I was chosen to carry a bride.
I have eased up with age now, I don’t go like a jet,
But my get up and go has not left me yet.
I grumble a bit when started but I haven’t got a knock
This is to be expected because I’ve gone right round the clock.
I might be a never was and well past my sell by date
But I have always made it well on time and never ever late.

I didn't learn to drive til I was 30. My first car was a Metro. It had blue striped seats which absolutely stank of cigarette smoke no matter how often I cleaned them. My son was three and decided to name the car Pakora as he loved vegetable Pakora whenever we had an Indian takeaway. So Pakora she became.

Our first car was a 1939 Jaguar. My husband bought it from a second hand dealer in 1957 . We took this car too seriously to give it any name except "The Car". It looked quite graceful as cars go with its big wheels and flaring wings that merged into the running boards.

It had leather upholstery and wool carpets. The carpets were dark red and little grubs lived underneath the carpet. These were pink from eating the carpet.

When I was teaching, my pupils called my car, the Batmobile. It was a two door, black Megane coupe, which resembled a squashed batmobile.

When I first bought it, my HT thought it belonged to one of the young, tendy teachers! Of course no old biddy would drive a car like that! grin.
My friend and I, thinking we were Thelma and Louise, used to drive to school in it, with the roof down! We were a bit windswept by the time we arrived!
