Amazing that the woman seems to have given birth entirely unaided, and the nurses are called to care for mum and baby!

Have you been on a flight when a call went out for medical assistance? Happened to us en route to Sri Lanka, a woman just behind us was taken ill, and by the rather panicky reports of dropping blood pressure from the doctor called out of his seat to help, she was bleeding out from somewhere. Pilot put the plane into overdrive, everything was flapping and shaking as we were going at top speed to the nearest airport, which happened to be Bahrain. It was 2.00am. After the ambulance had collected her we had to sit on the tarmac whilst all the luggage was taken off to find the cases of the woman and her companion.
All this time the aircraft was surrounded by men in Arabic robes and headdresses holding machine guns pointed at it, it was just before the start of the Iran/Iraq war, and everyone was very twitchy. There was no refuelling agreement with the airline, so sorting out the paper work took another two hours before we could finally take off and resume our journey. We heard from the pilot that the woman had made it safely to hospital, but of course never heard any updates after that. I hope she was alright.

A very sweet story, how lucky to have a team of neonatal medical staff on board. Congrats to the new mum!
