My 18 year old granddaughter was called up for her vaccine today when she arrived at the allotted time the queue of young folks went all the way up the long road and round the corner into the main road it took over half an hour to work to the front
Well done to the youngsters in my town for helping themselves and others

That is fantastic. Everyone I know has jumped at the chance of the vaccine.

timetogo2016 Sat 05-Jun-21 13:34:23

Fingers crossed the young ones around here will do the same.

Lollin Sat 05-Jun-21 13:57:26

That is fantastic I agree! I would like to ask where you are, but understand you probably would not want to say. Where I live we are still only hearing of those in their 40s being called still.

Lollin Sat 05-Jun-21 13:59:09

Ignore me I’ve just seen everywhere except England by the looks of things.

BlueBelle Sat 05-Jun-21 14:49:32

I am in England lollin let’s say East Anglia ( that’s big enough not to find my house ???)
We are still on the under 40s but whenever they get extra batches in…they are sending out to the young ones so the queue today was all boys and girls 18 + and they all seemed over the moon to be getting it and the sun is shining

But the question people are asking is whether we should give more vaccines to Africa which has a dire shortage. The pandemic isn't over until they are all done too.

BlueBelle Sat 05-Jun-21 15:41:21

Well the Covax project is helping there are 45 African countries already in a vaccine programme I believe Joe Biden has just donated a whole lot more and of course we need to do so too we have already donated some as has Europe and our AZ is very cheap made not for profit
My Zimbabwean friend have had their jabs their country has had a vaccination programme (I m not sure if bought or donated) from China and have received both their jabs there were 15 family member had Covid one death and both parents in the 80 s survived

There have been delays and ups and downs but I believe only 4 African countries have not started the programme yet

Several of them have either run out of vaccines or nearly run out. It's a big job, all those countries.

Brilliant news for your granddaughter Bluebelle, great to hear the young uns are taking up the vaccine, its all a bit slow this end ?

BlueBelle Sat 05-Jun-21 16:35:45

chestnut I agree we need to carry on helping and producing the vaccines until the world is vaccinated
I m not sure what you are implying by your post
I thought it was a positive sign but obviously you don’t

Chestnut Sat 05-Jun-21 16:46:17

I'm not implying anything, just heard it on the news and thought what a big job, all those countries, and how sad that they are so far behind. It does make me feel a bit guilty, but then Africa always makes us feel guilty I suppose.

Parsley3 Sat 05-Jun-21 17:05:11

Well done those youngsters! ??????

BlueBelle Sat 05-Jun-21 17:58:39

Anyway this was just meant to be a positive thread amid a lot of negativity especially about the younger generation

My two older grandchildren were taken to Twickenham stadium recently and both got their first vaccinations, they are 18 and 19. Just waiting for 14 year old to get hers!

I'm pleased for them but slightly miffed too.
My 30 y.o. son has had "the letter" being autistic he could not travel to a hub or stand amongst a crowd for maybe an hour. So I contacted our GP (which is where DH and I had our jabs) I was told he would have to wait to be contacted which will be about 3 wks or more.

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Jun-21 10:10:42

Excellent news BlueBelle, your GD must be very pleased indeed

I've been wondering about these 'random' vaccinations - what happens about the second vaccine?
Once you've had the first, is it the same setup as for everyone else?
Are you given a time for the next one?
Does anyone know?

are you in the UK? Our GP service did an LD/autism clinic type thing for people who couldn't travel to hubs. I know you have said he autism not LD but would it be worth asking if your GP service has an LD nurse there?

That said, I went to a very busy centre for my second vaccination and they got through people really quickly smile

Also, just another thought. Would it be worth asking your local vaccination centre if he could 'drop in' during a quiet period of the day? or whether he could go at the end when there are less people there?

I am pleased for your GD BlueBelle

What do you mean Fanny? The vaccine is logged on the NHS system for vaccines so you can just go on and book your next one. My second one was cancelled (a lot of people's were) as we live in an area where the Indian variant is high. It said log on to the nhs site to rebook and all the 2nd vaccinations had been brought forward by several weeks

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Jun-21 10:20:42

Thank you Jane - yes, that's all I meant. Being a bit dim, I'm afraid smile

BlueBelle Sun 06-Jun-21 15:36:55

Ninathenanna I have a friend with a grown up Downs son and she was really worried as he hadn’t been called up for his vaccination I advised her to go to the vaccination centre at the end of the day, they nearly always have people who have not turned up and are only to pleased to give it to anyone needing it
He proudly got his jab

JaneJudge Mon 07-Jun-21 07:14:26

BlueBelle, people with Down syndrome should have been called ages ago! I think they were in group 3

BlueBelle Tue 08-Jun-21 06:18:44

janejudge this was a month or more ago sorry if I made it sound like yesterday She just felt he hadn’t heard when she felt he should but all was well I was just trying to illustrate to ninathenanna that it’s worth trying other ways
