They seem to describe the vaccinations as Jabs (in England) in Scotland they were always Jags

What do you call them?

Jabs

Inoculation !

Vaccination/injection. I find the constant use of 'jab' irritating.

Kali2 Sat 26-Jun-21 12:26:01

especially when combined with 'into arms'! ggrrr

Witzend Sat 26-Jun-21 12:58:29

Jabs - we are southerners.
Yesterday had a zoom meeting with a Scot, who called them jags.
I couldn’t care less what anyone calls them, as long as they get themselves vaccinated!

Vaccination.
I find jab, in the language of my country of residence, and jag, in the language of my country of origin, devaluing to an amazing achievement.

Vaccination.
I'm another who dislikes jabs... and yes, especially when combined with "into arms".

Here here Witzend! Jags in my house.

Joke on Radio Scotland this week.

In Scotland, Partick Thistle football team are knows as the Jags. ( true ) In England they call them the Jabs. smile They're going to tell that joke again in 8 weeks because we need 2 doses.

Well, it tickled me.... grin

timetogo2016 Sat 26-Jun-21 13:07:23

Vaccine.

Kim19 Sat 26-Jun-21 13:09:29

Either will do me as long as I get it.

Kali2 Sat 26-Jun-21 13:13:24

I didn't understand the OP first as I have never heard of the 'jag'. And I thought, why has it got to be a choice, DD1 has both! Jab x 2 and a Jag.

lemongrove Sat 26-Jun-21 13:22:39

Jags is a Scottish only word as far as I know, not being Scottish I call it a jab.
Kali ?
Jags is also an old fashioned word for japes ( although that’s an old fashioned word in itself)
‘Hark, hark!
The dogs do bark,
The beggars are coming to town,
Some in rags and some in jags,
And one in a velvet gown.’
( Old English rhyme)
I used to have visions of the beggars riding in a jag , as a child, because my Uncle owned one.?

A popular opening gambit up here in conversations at the moment is "Been for your jags?"

"Have you been inoculated yet?" doesn't have the same ring to it.

Nobody's devaluing anything, its just what we call it.

I say vac or jab, especially online cos its faster to type....but i really don't care, the meaning is clear. I don't use Vax because to me its linked with antivax but that may be just me.

Vaccination

love0c Sat 26-Jun-21 13:30:53

vaccine/vaccination for me.

SueDonim Sat 26-Jun-21 13:36:26

I use whatever term I fancy at that moment. I don’t restrict myself to just one word. grin

I saw a superb Jaguar sports car the other day. I’d like one of those jags.

Lemongrove I love the word japes. ‘Jolly japes, what ho!’ ?

Gwenisgreat1 Sat 26-Jun-21 18:03:13

Thank you. Have to admit I don't care what it is called, either. I've had mine - both! Just curious!

Chewbacca Sat 26-Jun-21 18:11:24

My next door neighbour said he'd been for his prick. I must have looked stunned because his wife quickly added "He means he went for his jab this morning".

goose1964 Sat 26-Jun-21 20:29:03

South Wales expat in AS England jabs

Marydoll Sat 26-Jun-21 20:42:50

I have had both jags, but I would rather have this Jag! I saw a young woman driving one the other day. ?

Oldbat1 Sat 26-Jun-21 21:38:44

Jag.

Mollygo Sat 26-Jun-21 21:48:28

Doses of vaccine or vaccinations. I don’t really mind jab, but dislike jag.

Biscuitmuncher Sat 26-Jun-21 22:35:48

Jab, jag, I've had neither
