Making savings on beauty products

I’m sure there’ll be someone who figured this out ages ago, and has been doing it for years...in which case, this is not for you.

I discovered a few months ago, just how much product you can save, by cutting off the heads of cream bottles. I had thought about it before, but wasn’t sure if it would be worth it. Especially at the risk of cutting off one of my fingers!

However...my husband has a tool...( he generally does ?), which pierces the bottle top easily, and cuts it off. I now do it very well with an ordinary kitchen knife.

With my body cream bottle...I do only get enough for one more application, but the face cream....it’s loads. About 10 more applications! This is after you can no longer squeeze or bash it out from the bottle neck.

I use ‘Simple’, face cream, and ‘Aveeno’ body cream, but have cut open other makes.

Just thought I’d pass this on as a tip, but you do need to be careful when cutting it. I wear rubber gloves.

Yes I do the same. Cut a hand cream tube in half with scissors when you think it’s empty and it’s amazing how much is left. I also stand Fairy Liquid bottles upside down (top closed!) when ‘empty’ and get several more days from them. Miser, moi?!

Me too. I use a Maybelline foundation which comes in a glass bottle. When none comes out with the pump action thing, I prise the top off with a knife and there's loads more in it.

I've always done it.
My mum and I almost came to blow when she threw out the toothpaste and I retrieved it from the bin and cut the tube open. blush

Well, there is a good week or so of extra toothpaste in an empty tube! grin

I cut tubes open too. The top half fits over the bottom to form a lid. I get about three more weeks of lotion by doing this.

I do this now with my Boots no7 moisturiser with sun protection.I spend a lot of time outdoors and go through a few tubes a year.It made me realise how wasteful a lot of packaging is and how much product is still in there. In an attempt to use as little plastic as possible I have ditched a lot of products and look for things in more accessible and reusable or fully recyclable containers now.
