Just venting here but I just got off the phone from an acquaintance( 10 years younger than me) after a long listen( she didn't let me talk much) about everything bad in her life and just on and on and on about her bad childhood, self self self. I will think twice about ringing her again to see how she is going. I know she can be a tad depressive and I accept that and often try to cheer her and make her laugh but perhaps it is our extensive isolations that had made her totally self absorbed. Grr. Thanks for listening people....

I salute your tolerance and kindness. She is obviously much more needy than you. Take consolation in the fact that you may have improved her day considerably. Well done. Now call someone whom you know to be a good listener. Good luck!

Maybe write her a letter next time? And really we aren’t isolating any more are we, so I think you are being very kind about your friend unloading on you.
Some friends are drains and some are radiators, but as kim has said you probably cheered her up!
Now phone someone who cheers you up.
