One has to wonder what the effect this could have on this small child’s mental health.

Personal protective equipment was in evidence at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport as Australia found two more omicron cases yesterday, both in Sydney.

Really?

fairfraise Tue 30-Nov-21 12:48:19

I think it's crackers and awful for them.

Urmstongran Tue 30-Nov-21 12:57:01

Me too. Looks as though they are on their way to a crime scene.

fairfraise Tue 30-Nov-21 12:57:51

That was my gut reaction!

fairfraise Tue 30-Nov-21 12:59:48

I long for the day when certain words and news is just cleared off the MSN.

theworriedwell Tue 30-Nov-21 13:03:43

I can't see why it would have any more effect on MH than making them put sun screen on when it is a sunny day or a snow suit when it is cold unless an adult puts that in their head.

?

sodapop Tue 30-Nov-21 13:09:37

Just a tad of an overreaction methinks

Adults, as in the media are putting 'it' in childrens heads.
This is just re enforcing it, big time.

theworriedwell Tue 30-Nov-21 13:25:43

Well adults should think what they are saying. I got very fed up of the media people constantly saying how kids' futures were ruined because of schools being closed. Watching that with teenage GC wasn't pleasant but fortunately he was old enough to know that it was up to him to put the work in.

I still don't know why it would reinforce anything, it is a suit, we put kids in clothes without explaining the significance all the time. One of my kids hated having shoes on, he still had to wear them with no explanation. Just one of those things.

vegansrock Tue 30-Nov-21 13:38:50

This will have zero effect on a child’s mental health any more than wearing a onesie, a swimming costume, a puddle suit or any number of dressing up clothes

AGAA4 Tue 30-Nov-21 13:45:47

Children are accepting of what adults tell them to wear with maybe a few grumbles.
I doubt it would affect their mental health.
It might affect mine if I was asked to wear one of those suits ?

Children are well aware of the virus because they’ve been living with it for almost 2 years. My 6 year old grandson told me they are having a nativity that 2 people can go to watch because of the virus. So, that’s mummy and daddy he said and of course he’s right.
Hazmat suits follow masks, hand wash, being in/out of school, bubbles being sent home, miss being missing because she’s got the virus. Not going to grannie if you have a cold.

BlueBelle Tue 30-Nov-21 14:55:35

Completely ridiculous and if the parents are so nervous that they have to wear specialist clothing that will rub off on the kids, of course it will
“Mum why are we all covered up like this when my friends are in their ordinary clothes” “ because there’s a nasty virus around that can harm you and mummy wants to keep you safe” “why aren’t the other mummies keeping their children safe ?” I can see that child having lots of thoughts, concerns and fears about something that is going to achieve nothing
I think they need a Buzz lightyear helmet to finish it off
??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️

Are those the outfits I call hazelnut suits? Or are actual hazenut (hazmat) suits more protective?

JaneJudge Tue 30-Nov-21 15:19:10

they just look like the suits you get in decorating packs with the roller, roller tray in

Oh no, think of the MH damage if a child saw their parents decorating? The might ask why some people just get covered in paint like I do. I save old clothes for this very purpose.

"One has to wonder what the effect this could have on this small child’s mental health" Does one? This one thinks it will have precisely no effect on the child's mental health.

Calistemon Tue 30-Nov-21 16:05:30

I'd get fed up with the endless question: "Are we there yet?"
"Where, dear?"
"Mars! I'm wearing my space suit"

"But, are we there yet?"

Kalu Tue 30-Nov-21 16:12:19

We are only guessing at the effect on this child’s MH.
My guess, it won’t effect the child at all, especially a toddler who won’t be thinking too deeply about this. Age approx. 10 plus may not go along with Mummy’s thinking.

Mollygo Tue 30-Nov-21 16:37:50

Very little impact unless there’s a fuss about it. Children accept snow suits, painting overalls, fancy dress etc.

Agree

Children are far more adaptable than adults. They complain far less too re covid

GagaJo Tue 30-Nov-21 23:16:47

Let's be frank. The world is going to get a hell of a lot more of a mess than it currently is, due to global warming. The less alarmist we can be the better, to give them some quality of life. Make taking precautions matter of fact. Their lives are going to be very much different to ours.

maddyone Tue 30-Nov-21 23:59:44

I don’t think it’ll have any effect on the child’s mental health, but the parent’s obvious overreaction may very well have an effect on the child’s mental health.
