Not sure if I am allowed to ask this on here.....

As a fairly newish poster I may be breaking Gransnet rules by asking this question but here goes. Alegrias1 is a frequent and lively poster on here, usually on the more in-depth topics but I haven't seen any responses from her in a while. I have been wondering if she is ok. I hope she is.

As far as I know she decided to leave the forum.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 22-Feb-22 11:05:19

That’s my understanding. I think she didn’t like the criticism of the SNP, though in my experience she could give at least as good as she got!

Part of life’s rich pattern. People come ,people go. I was on a particular forum for more than 10 years but eventually left because I started to disagree with many of the posters. Best to move on, no point in staying.

Everyone has a choice, bit I'm always surprised when people just dont respond to the threads they dont like. It's not compulsory.

Redhead56 Tue 22-Feb-22 11:10:29

I agree some subjects here I don't get involved in but others do. This poster was actually very well informed. There are others who have just disappeared it's a pity especially when they have been banned it's like being at school naughty grans!

Namsnanny Tue 22-Feb-22 11:11:13

Good point nanna8 lifes too short, as they saysmile

Elegran Tue 22-Feb-22 11:12:48

I thought she had only left one particular thread, but it seems she has left completely.

Namsnanny Tue 22-Feb-22 11:17:30

Did she actually post her reasons before she left then? I missed that if she did. Although there is an awful lot I do miss on here! Perhaps it's just as well.

Yammy Tue 22-Feb-22 11:19:25

I had been wondering too. Maybe she's joined a debating society or canvassing for the SNP. Her political views certainly came across strongly. I have been on the end of her scathing comments quite a few times.

Galaxy Tue 22-Feb-22 11:19:37

Whatever the reason I will miss her contributions in particular in relation to covid .

halfpint1 Tue 22-Feb-22 11:20:35

Me too

Namsnanny Tue 22-Feb-22 11:21:28

I agree Redhead, being banned is like being at school. But I've yet to understand the rules clearly. grin

halfpint1 Tue 22-Feb-22 11:21:33

Scathing comments that is

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 22-Feb-22 11:24:17

Lemongrove has disappeared too. I don’t know why but anyone who supports the Conservatives, as she does, like me, gets short shrift on here.

nanna8 Tue 22-Feb-22 11:26:58

Yes I’ve noticed the bias germanshepherdsmum. Doesn’t affect me but it is noticeable.

Doodledog Tue 22-Feb-22 11:28:06

Do we know for certain that she left, or is she just taking a break?

People often take time out from discussion boards when they feel that they are more stressful than fun, then come back when they feel more positive about it all.

Marydoll Tue 22-Feb-22 11:30:54

She has cancelled her account

Namsnanny Tue 22-Feb-22 11:33:16

I really love reading the more even handed posters. Those who steadfastly support their pov, with clever debate. Without diminishing their opponent by attacking them.

But I get that we all go overboard from time to time, but if undermining is the main tactic to winning that bout of the 'discussion'. It becomes too adversarial for my taste.

I already do. She has left please let’s not continue to criticise her ! For the record there was a lot more to her decision than the SNP thread

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 22-Feb-22 11:37:02

It seems a bit OTT if it’s about criticism of Scottish independence. I could just as easily do the same due to the Tory bashing.

Oh come off it gsm

Pepper59 Tue 22-Feb-22 11:39:21

The thing is not everyone is going to agree on everything.

Galaxy Tue 22-Feb-22 11:39:37

I enjoyed the fact that she had lots of scientific knowledge but also recognised the civil liberties issues with regard to vaccine mandates etc.

Sarnia Tue 22-Feb-22 11:43:48

Thank you GN's. I didn't want to pry or need personal details but I missed her. Please don't post unpleasant things about her. That was never my intention. I didn't always agree with her views but that's what a healthy discussion is all about, I thought. She had quite a lot of knowledge on varied topics.
