The reason for asking is, I am going and I am truly flummoxed as to what the regulations are for covid testing.

The requirements have been changed as of 23rd February, but can i make any sense of it ???? NO I CAN'T.

i am hoping that by the time we go ( July) its changed and a LOT simpler.

My understanding is that you have to be fully vaccinated and have a negative covid test taken in the day before travel plus you have to have proof that you have been approved by ArriveCAN.
Of course the rules can change at any time.

Thank you Esspee. Ive read read, read the rules till ive lost the plot haaa, ive managed to retain the information about being fully vaccinated, but the rest is sooooo confusing. YES hopefully it will all change in 3 months time.

Thank you again for your reply ....

The most difficult part is having to get a neg result 24 hrs before departure. That will mean paying considerably more for the test and a lot of stress waiting for the result.

Personally that put us off booking the trip.

As the sub variant currently causing a huge surge in infection rates is much more infectious than the original Omicron I fear rules will be tightened rather than relaxed in the near future.

My daughter has just been here from Dubai..she left on Sunday and didn't have to do a pcr test..

Same with USA. I would love to see DS1 and family but 11hours in a mask plus the day before test is putting me off. The journey was stressful enough without all this. By the day before take off we are well on our way. How do people receive the results of the test? My phone isn't connected to the Internet, will I need a new phone to receive and show the result? At the moment we are thinking of September in the hope of the US rules easing.

Have you looked at www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/coronavirus-disease-covid-19/arrivecan.html
I travelled to Toronto a month ago. I had to have a pcr test a couple of days before I travelled. I got mine done at Boots, as it was quicker to get the results back. You have to be double vaccinated.

Masks are mandatory on flights. I did worry about this, but had no issues at all. You have to wear masks in public places still.

I was selected for a random covid test on arrival at Toronto, got results back a couple of days later.

I flew Air Canada which was fine. They did want a check in fours hours prior to flight, but I did three hours, which was no problem. Just make sure you have all paperwork and vaccination status to hand as this was checked quite a lot.

We went to the USA almost as soon as they reopened. It wasn’t a day before test, though that might have changed. I think it was 2-3 days so easily managed provided you don’t live way out from cities.
As for the mask wearing, I would have worn a scuba diving outfit if that’s what it took to hold my grandchildren again.
I spent £20 on a pure silk mask which was said to be the best for breathing, a waste of money. Fortunately I took a wide selection of masks with me and the routine medical quality (donated by my dentist) proved the most comfortable. Remember everyone on board has had a recent negative PCR test. You are far safer on that plane than in your local supermarket.
It’s coming back you have to worry about as the U.K. doesn’t require tests so everyone on board could be positive.

You need a smartphone. There are so many advantages to being online. Buy one outright. Contracts are a rip off. I am with Lebara, around £5 a month and I have 3GB of data, the contract is month to month so you can opt out if you get a better offer. The £5 includes unlimited calls to U.K. landlines and mobiles, unlimited texts, plus 100 minutes of overseas calls.. If you find better please let me know.

Nobody needs a test to enter the U.K. unless coming from a red listed country. There are NO red listed countries.

This is expected to boost Boris’s popularity (what popularity?)

Ohhhh a massive THANK YOU to everyone x

The mask bit has got me too, but seeing as i will be sat down and not moving about i am kind of chilled about it!

Thank you CassieJ, it is Toronto we fly to, yes i have read that link but its left me flummoxed.

There are 3 adults and 1 child ( 4 yr old ) all 3 adults are double vaccinated plus booster. I ordered a print out from NHS as proof.

I didnt know Boots do the tests that's great thank you for that, i will tell my daughter.

Serendipity22 Wed 16-Mar-22 15:44:21

CassieJ it says we have to do a test 1 day before and we can choose to do it on video link !!!!!! Was this the case with you ?

Im beginning to wish i hadn't flippin booked it .......

Hello, they are changing rules quite often now. I just heard at lunchtime that tests do not need to be done as long as people are double vaxed. This was just updated today.

Try not to stress about it until a few weeks before your flight, and then have a look.

There is an ArriveCan app to upload your vaccination proof before flight.
Here is a page from the government web site, but please check it again further to your flight. And please do come! What city are you visiting?

Ohhhhhh THANK YOU CanadianGran, that is welcome to know, phewwww. My son flew here last August with no trouble!
Am i right in thinking that masks are going to be non essential?

We are travelling to Toronto then to a place near Peterborough.

Yes, i will check and check again before we fly.

Thank you for your help. smile

CassieJ Thu 17-Mar-22 10:17:22

Serindipity22 , no I wasn't given the option of doing the test via video link. You will need to check which Boots does the PCR test, it is mostly the bigger ones that do.

Not sure if things have changed in the last few weeks since I was there, but a 4 year old will need to wear a mask when going inside any shops etc. My 4 year old grand daughter has to wear one all day at school too in Toronto.
