I did it - I retired today!

Yesterday I retired - seven years after setting up a charity to help homeless and vulnerably housed people. I’ve loved the job and learned so much from my colleagues and, especially, the clients, but I finally reached the point where I couldn’t continue without significantly damaging my health. It was a job with no financial reward, but the satisfaction I achieved was more than sufficient recompense.

Some of you will remember we were looking for volunteers to carry on the work and I’m happy to report that there’s now a team of eight people who are already enthusiastically doing the job. So I can leave knowing that the charity is in good hands.

Now my focus is on restoring my health, shedding some excess weight and looking forward to spending more time with my family who are all very relieved that I made it out alive! ?

I also have a new grandchild on the way - so exciting. ??

Well done! And what a worthwhile thing to be able to have done. I hope you feel proud of your achievements but also ready to relax. When I retired I knew I would find the change difficult so I had a few projects ready to go. Some I started before retirement, others as soon as I had left my job teaching. That helped ease me into it. I took up art and find it absorbing. Now, four years and two grandchildren on, I rarely have days when I'm bored. I hope your health improves and you find joy in retirement.
