Good morning from a fine Torbay following some overnight rain.

Yesterday afternoon, I was sad to learn of the death of a neighbour from the flat below mine. He had suffered from cancer for about a year and was doing quite well but had deteriorated noticeably since Christmas and succumbed to pneumonia in hospital. When I had Covid in March, he fell down the steps to his flat and DH went to his rescue, helping him indoors and cleaning his wounds. Afterwards DH said, “I gave him a hug as it felt like the right thing to do.”

I’m emotional recalling that and the many acts of kindness he showed e.g. sharing his baking, buying presents for a single mother’s children, etc. Despite being in his 70's, before his illness he worked weekends as a hospital porter, mainly for the company. An ideal neighbour and thoroughly decent man who will be much missed by all the neighbours here.

Thoughts with all bearing burdens today. ??????

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. My main activity today is going for my Long Term Conditions (LTC) review. Blood tests, blood pressure etc). ??? to lots of you.

grandMattie Fri 06-May-22 06:10:04

Good morning from a cloudy E Kent. We are promised 20C today!
Lovely message after my usual chasing of new drugs for DH. He is postponing changing patches to stronger ones and being very stubborn - I suppose it is one of the last things he has control over.
Today, we are seeing the oncologist with, we hope, the results of the biopsy taken last week and, at last, hoping to have some sort of palliative treatment plan other than pain control.
Have a gentle day, catch that passing happiness. Hope those in need of any sor5 of comfort receive it. Carpe diem. ???☀️????

Good Morning everyone from from Severnside. It’s dry and bright.

It’s very sad to lose a lovely neighbour Ash ?. The first year that mine died I often stood at my fence looking at her garden which meant so much to her.

A weekly shopping day and a bill to pay. I’m going to wear my new clothes and have a new pair of green shoes. Later I’m going to make a few cards.

I’m pleased to say a class I attend is starting again ?

Have a good day all ??

cornergran Fri 06-May-22 06:34:45

Morning Mick, morning All from a cloudy corner of Somerset.

Busy day with bits and bobs yesterday. Mr C has requested we go out for breakfast so indeed we will.

That’s sad news ash, we do miss good neighbours. Our lovely friends bungalow will have a new owner today, it will seem strange to see someone else there.

Good wishes to you all, hope Friday is a gentle day.

Urmstongran Fri 06-May-22 06:36:00

Here’s Matt.

Good morning everyone from Malaga where it’s another gorgeous day ahead. We are meeting neighbours here for dinner. They have lived out here for over 20y and hail from Glasgow. Such a nice couple. Good neighbours make such a difference to communities. So sad about yours Ashcombe he sounded a thoroughly decent man and will be missed by many I bet.

Nice to see the cute guinea pigs yesterday Scentia! You’d gone AWOL for a while. I hope your husband is continuing to do well post op. granndMattie your forbearance is an inspiration to us all. You are much admired on here. I hope the oncologist has some heartening suggestions for you both.

Our friends from Bolton fly home this afternoon. We enjoyed their company very much last night. Dinner on the marina was lovely. Cocktails for us first - I had a Porn Star Martini and my friend chose a Woo-woo. She’d never had one before and was most impressed! ? I made her laugh when I told her what I’d read recently about cocktails - a bartender in London had said “they’re like breasts - one isn’t enough and three are too many”!

Enjoy Friday all who can. ?

Good morning all from Polmont where it's wet, wet, wet. 12° so warm rain? Ash it is very sad when you lose a good neighbour. I have really good neighbours on the whole who have been very kind.
Yesterday I did go to the garden centre and bought a lot of plants, mostly fruit and vegetables. I have rediscovered my love of growing produce. When I was young I had the most wonderful fruit and vegetable garden then life and babies took over. Now I'm experimenting with growing them in containers. Later the old bed was removed by two lovely men who willingly took away extra rubbish for me. They were very obliging. I spent the rest of the afternoon planting up and watering.
Today I plan to be lazy and just potter. Have a good day all.

baubles Fri 06-May-22 06:56:41

Good morning all from soggy South Lanarkshire.

Sorry to hear about your neighbour Ash.

Green shoes sound fabulous Beechnut.

I’m doing precisely nothing today. DH is going back to DS’s to help him lay flooring, the last thing to be done in their kitchen makeover.

There will be something in the freezer that I can produce a meal from I’m sure but other than that it’ll be an indulgent day of lazing and pottering.

Have the best day possible everyone. ??

Good morning from Bram where the sun is shining at long last.
Yesterday we had a trip to Mirepoix, a Medieval City with a Cathedral, very pretty but it was cold.
Today we are taking the train to Carcassonne. A long day ahead but a place we both enjoy.
I love all the books written by Kate Mosse, most of them set around here and in Carcassonne.
I'm sorry to hear about your neighbour Ash. We had a lady living in our block of flats, she used to be a nun, who recently moved to a home as she now has dementia. We all miss her.
I hope there is better news for your DH GM.
Enjoy Friday everyone, I hope the sun shines for you xx

Grandmadinosaur Fri 06-May-22 07:04:34

Buenos Dias from Ibiza where there is a pale blue sky and as I perch on the edge of my bed I can see the sea. I am in heaven. From everywhere in this room yes even the bathroom you can see the sea. I’ll enclose a photo of our view.

Arrived safely yesterday and the 55 minute wait getting through security on fast track was a distant memory.

We too enjoyed cocktails before a lovely meal on the marina last night. A restaurant we hadn’t tried on previous visits but one we will go back to for sure. The dessert DH had was an Ibizan speciality. It was a tart with a sponge type filling with fresh mint in it. Sounds usual but I tried some and it was delicious and will look out for a recipe. I told the waitress I’d never come across it here before. She said many others had said the same. Lovely food and staff.
Today we will have a lazy morning in the sun then a wander for lunch.

Sorry to hear your sad news Ashcombe

Hope things go to plan today * GM*

? to Grannmarie

Take care everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 06-May-22 07:05:05

Morning Mick and all

The 7yr old woke me up at 6.10am this morning, I am definitely running in empty, after only managing 3 hours sleep last night…

Hopefully DD will go home later today if the swelling and weals are no worse, and I can tidy up the playroom and change their beds.

So sad for you regarding the death if your neighbour Ashcombe

Oh Urmstongran you have made me giggle with your cocktail analogy, very true ???

You are doing marvellously grandMattie , try and find time to look after yourself ?

Keep safe and well folks ??‍♀️

Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings ?

Good morning from sunny Colchester.
A day in the charity shop as we are having a big winter to summer sort out and it's all hands to the deck.
Our ward has a new councillor but I don't know if the low turnout gave the overall council the shake up that it needs.
Love to all ? x

Beechnut Fri 06-May-22 07:19:30

Thanks baubles.

BlueBalou Fri 06-May-22 07:21:49

Good morning everyone from a sunny Wiltshire village.
A quiet morning for me then art group this afternoon.
No idea what we’re having for dinner, I haven’t got anything out of the freezer ?. I do get bored with cooking, I almost feel like buying ready meals ?
That’s sad about your neighbour Ash, we have lovely neighbours here, I would hate to lose any of them.
I hope you all have a good day x

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 06-May-22 07:29:47

So sad about the demise of your neighbour Ashcombe. I, too, am blessed with mainly nice neighbours.

Good morning all! Meeting an old work colleague today who I haven't seen since before covid. We are doing the Ingleton waterfall walk together. Otherwise just continuing to tidy/ clean our house before our Ukrainian guests arrive. 3 out of 4 of their visas have come through. Could be any day now. Have your DDs guests arrived yet Maw? ginny Fri 06-May-22 07:47:36

Good morning.’overcast here in N. Bucks at the moment.
Had a lovely day yesterday at ‘LivingCrafts’ with DD1. Lots to look at and we did two workshops. We made our own chocolates and a wicker dragonfly. Finished off on the way home with dinner.
Today I must catch up on some housework and then I’m meeting three long time friends for lunch locally.

Hoping you all have the best day possible.

glammagran Fri 06-May-22 07:55:49

Morning all. I often wonder who so many of you find the time to post so often. But then I’m generally not an early riser. I wish I could change my body clock to go to sleep before 12:30 am.

We had a lovely bank holiday weekend at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. First live music we’d seen since 2019. Cheltenham is such a nice place. I’d love to live on the edge of a large town. I hate where we currently live in a small, very boring town but if we moved away we wouldn’t see the GC so often.

A busy week with youngest GS on Tuesday and then his 3 year old sister yesterday. Today we are going to Cribb’s causeway to look at sofas.

I’m so glad you found your ring Urms. Thinking of GM in a difficult week for her family. Wishing everyone a happy and sunny weekend.

Georgesgran Fri 06-May-22 07:58:36

Good morning from an overcast Durham. Owls kept me awake for most of the night!
A coffee day today - old friend this morning at a local garden centre, then more coffee with someone else later.
Gardener here today, but I’ll probably miss him.
Sad about your neighbor Ash but some better news so far today on this thread. Hope your oncologist has a plan gM - ours was a great help. X

dragonfly46 Fri 06-May-22 07:59:41

Good morning from sunny Leicestershire.

Sorry to hear about your neighbour Ash. Good neighbours do make a difference. We have just exchanged our grumpy one for a lovely one!
I hope your DHs oncologist has a plan GrandMattie and that your DD is feeling better GG.

Nordic Walking this morning in the sunshine then a day pottering in the garden.
Wishing everyone a good day.

dragonfly46 Fri 06-May-22 08:02:12

I like the sound of the wicker dragonfly Ginny.
