Best buy/Never buy

What's the best thing you've bought lately?
What one thing would you never buy?

My recent best buy is a Cole and Mason Fresh Herb Keeper. We had been buying cut mint and parsley twice a week for our regular fasting day recipe (Rick Stein - Gigantes) and we always used far less than we threw away because it deteriorated so fast no matter what we did. So wasteful! The above gadget is absolutely amazing. It really works! The instructions suggest keeping it in the fridge but it's a little too tall for that. It works perfectly well on the window sill. My daughter and son-in-law have one. They got theirs from John Lewis but mine came from Amazon.

I will never spend good money buying jeans that already have rips, tears, holes and artfully distressed and worn bits. When my jeans wear out at the knee I throw them out or occasionally cut them off as shorts.

Is this it lizzy?

I think my best buy recently has been a very small whisk for frothing the milk in my coffee. Cheaper than a coffee machine!
Can't think of any bad buys!

That'll be it, Jane. It's a brilliant thing. We've got mint in the garden but it seems to have come to the end of its useful life. The leaves are tiny and pathetic.

Why didn't you freeze the left over herbs?

Jane10 Sun 16-Apr-17 14:06:23

My most recent best buy was a scented room thingy with wooden rods sticking out. Sorry can't think of proper name for it. I got it from John Lewis. It seemed expensive to me but has filled the house with the most delicious and natural smell of fresh flowers. It just makes me feel good every time I come home. £20+ well spent (but still seems wickedly extravagant to me).
Can't think of an actual worst buy.

petra I'm hopeless with small amounts of leftovers in the freezer. Things disappear for ever in there. On the window sill, the herbs are there under my eye.

I love those scented thingies to Jane and have them all over the place though I tend to buy them when they are on offer.

Just remembered - I think they are reed diffusers or something like that!

lizzypopbottle Sun 16-Apr-17 14:23:02

It's a reed diffuser, Jane10 ?

kittylester Sun 16-Apr-17 14:25:13

I just said that!! grin

Thanks!

This little thread hoe is so useful for confined areas and even pots.

I would never buy bottled water. There is nothing wrong with what comes out of the tap!

Sorry kitty, I was typing when your post landed, hit the send button and oops! there was yours! ?

lizzypopbottle Sun 16-Apr-17 15:49:51

I agree about bottled water, shysal.

kittylester Sun 16-Apr-17 15:51:27

So do I (agree about bottled water!)

It's fine lizzy - I wasn't really upset just wanted to point out that I had remembered something grin

janeainsworth please share the link for your frother... I want one but wouldn't know where to start. TIA.

Meant to say my best buy has been a tiny pair of clippers for dead heading.

I'd never spend money on an expensive watch, I like to buy fun ones.

Now that's what I want, a tiny pair of clippers for dead heading.

My best buy was my Kitchen Aid Classic. I've had it for nearly 30 years and it cost an arm and a leg then, but has paid for itself over and over. I would never buy packet soup or cake mixes, just as cheap and quick to make my own.

This is one of the best little gadgets ever. I bought it after seeing the Hairy Bikers using it on TV.

Basically you pop the onion, carrot, herbs, nuts or whatever inside and pull the string. No electricity needed. The more you pull the string the finer the chopping. I use mine almost every day. It's amazing.

Willow500 Mon 17-Apr-17 07:08:07

I've just looked at the herb keeper and could definitely do with one as the pots either dry out or they are over watered. I've got one of the choppers gillybob - fantastic gadget although the blades are incredibly sharp so I'm very wary of them! My best buy this week has to be the card reader which I've bought to take the data off my failed hard drive - stuck the drive in last night and there it all is ready for me to retrieve grin

I am very impressed by all you good cooks ans housewives! When I read I read Best Buy, I immediately thought of clothes! How frivolous of me!

Irenelily Mon 17-Apr-17 09:29:08

Sorry about the duplication!
