Something a bit wooo just happened

Any thoughts on what could have caused this....

Went to bed at about 11 o'clock last night; nothing out of the ordinary. Woke about 02.30 and couldn't get back to sleep, so I got up, came downstairs and made a cup of tea. I sat in the living room and browsed GN (and even posted on a games thread) whilst I drank tea and went back to bed at about 03.30. Got up this morning and went back in the living room and I immediately noticed that a small ornament of a hare, which had sat quite comfortably on the mantlepiece for 10 years or more, was lying shattered on the floor. It was in fragments. I couldn't understand how it could have happened because I know that it was not like that at 03.30; I'd have noticed immediately. Whilst I was clearing it up, I looked at the cuckoo clock hanging on the wall. It was ticking, as normal, but the hands were at half past six. I went over to the clock to put the hands to the right time but both hands just swung back down loosely to half past six again. Several times it did that. I eventually managed to get the hands to the correct time and they've stayed that way since. But I didn't touch the clock before going to bed last night and can't understand why both hands would suddenly become loosened overnight.

Although both of these occurrences aren't particularly important, I'm mystified as to what on earth went on in my living room between half 3 and half 6 this morning. I don't normally believe in wooo, but I'm a bit hmm about this. Any ideas GNetters?

A little earthquake possibly?

NfkDumpling Wed 05-Dec-18 14:46:33

Excitable mice?

Maybelle Wed 05-Dec-18 14:51:24

Do you think you might have been sleepwalking ?

Ilovecheese Wed 05-Dec-18 14:57:01

I agree with tanith sounds like it could have been a small earthquake.

Jalima1108 Wed 05-Dec-18 14:57:10

Are you really Chewbacca or have you been cloned?

There hasn't been an earthquake in the UK or offshore since the 26th November.

Jalima1108 Wed 05-Dec-18 14:57:52

helicopters flying over?
or a low-flying aircraft?

Maggiemaybe Wed 05-Dec-18 14:58:33

Just as well you're known to us all, Chewie, or in view of recent threads we'd all be reporting this as a possible wind up!

Have you got a wandering pet?

Buffybee Wed 05-Dec-18 14:58:33

It does sound a bit whooo!
Could your cat have jumped up and knocked the hare ornament off the mantelpiece? clutching at straws
Did you have to tighten the hands on the clock to keep them in place?
Could someone else have broken the hare and left it lying there as they didn't want to own up to it?
Things do not generally leap off flat surfaces, so a mystery.

Jalima1108 Wed 05-Dec-18 15:09:21

Hares leap Buffybee

Were you watching the Nutcracker Chewbacca?
The toys ornaments coming to life?

Teetime Wed 05-Dec-18 15:36:07

When we lived in Wensleydale there were small tremors all the time.

BlueBelle Wed 05-Dec-18 15:41:52

Could you have had a sleep in the chair and touched things whilst in woo woo land

Grannybags Wed 05-Dec-18 16:31:46

Sounds like something from an Agatha Christie plot!

Chewbacca Wed 05-Dec-18 16:32:57

grin

It did cross my mind that starting this thread could be seen as another wind up! Promise its not!

No earthquakes around here that I've been made aware of. Neighbours haven't reported anything anyway.
I wasn't watching anything on tv (or similar) when I got up for a brew in the middle of the night and certainly not The Nutcracker grin mad idea!
No cat living with me now, unfortunately, so can't be that.
If I was sleep walking, I was pretty compos mentis when doing so! I managed to make a brew, a slice of toast and post on a GN games thread! But I definitely didn't smash Harold Hare and I didn't sabotage my cuckoo clock either!
And I was still awake when the woo was going on because when I went back to bed I lay and listened to the radio for a while.

Ah well, the clocks still going but Harold Hare is no more. But thanks for giving me a smile everyone! Don't suppose anyone else has had any unexplained woo moments have they? Make me feel a bit more sane?

All things on horizontal surfaces will eventually fall off. This is a rule of the universe.

Baggs Wed 05-Dec-18 16:40:55

???

No, really! It is.

notanan2 Wed 05-Dec-18 16:50:20

The earth "rang" like a bell a few days ago. It was picked up by seismologists but it was NOT an earthquake (no waves). No-one knows what it was

notanan2 Wed 05-Dec-18 16:58:01

(Just looked it up and it was actually last month...still though v strange)

NfkDumpling Wed 05-Dec-18 17:01:15

Fracking?

NfkDumpling Wed 05-Dec-18 17:02:14

(That sounds like an expletive - I think I’ll start using it as one. Oh frack off, etc grin)

merlotgran Wed 05-Dec-18 17:07:23

My money's on the cuckoo. That Big Ben scene from The Thirty Nine Steps springs to mind. grin

EllanVannin Wed 05-Dec-18 17:10:10

Tales of Mystery. Anyone remember that ?

Elegran Wed 05-Dec-18 17:14:53

Maybe the clock hands have been gradually getting looser and finally reached the point where they slipped down. hat dosn't explain the hare though. I'd go with the small earthquake to explain the clock. That could have given the clock a little shake too.

Recent UK earthquakes:- earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/earthquakes/recent_uk_events.html Last updated yesterday so wouldn't have anything from early this morning. Look again tomorrow.

Elegran Wed 05-Dec-18 17:15:55

Should have said "I'd go with the small earthquake to explain the hare", not the clock.

lemongrove Wed 05-Dec-18 18:25:43

Chewy is that the bronzed hare?
I have a couple of those with names beginning with H, and I just wonder if it got too warm and cracked into bits?
Were they on the mantelpiece and did you have a fire going?
The clock is another matter, but clock hands do stick on older clocks.
Once you have eliminated the impossible, the answer, however improbable is the truth....or something like that, said by Holmes in one of the Sherlock stories.grin
