Daftest 'forgetful' moment

You know how leeks can get soil between the layers?

I chopped and washed mine, sauteed them in a little butter with a couple of twists of black pepper - this to make leek sauce.

The phone rang and I spent 5 mins talking to a friend.

When I came back to the leek pan I saw all this dirt amongst the leeks. sad
With a huge sigh I washed it all off and started again - only to remember - but too late - it wasn't soil, it was black pepper.

What's your daftest 'forgetful moment'?

Well, last week, I took little dgd to a 'stay and play' group for the first time. I had to fill out a form with some very basic details. Went again this week and discovered that I had got the most basic of those details wrong - my dgd's name!
To be honest, it was sort of her name, as it was one of the many shortened versions that her official name can have, but not one that any of us ever use. blush

I did something not too dissimilar six years ago, a week or two after my first dgd (but second dgc) was born. Someone asked if it was a girl or a boy, and I heard myself reply 'a boy'! I could only put that down to the fact that, as mother to two sons and no daughters, until that point, the answer to that question had always been 'a boy'.

I had a fetish tyre the other day and I said to GS I think I better get my tyres checked in case they need replacing, he said Grandma you had all your tyres replaced 2mths ago. I knew that ?

tanith Fri 20-Sep-19 09:33:41

Oh my not a fetish tyre a flatish tyre ?

annodomini Fri 20-Sep-19 09:38:07

Have done the classic simmered bones to make stock, then drained the lot carefully down the sink, done that twice now ?

I was making myself a cup of coffee, got mug and jar of coffee. Put kettle on, opened coffee, found spoon, put lid back on coffee and put jar away. About to pour water into mug but realised there was no coffee in it.

That was soooooo funny tanith#

The classic putting something in the fridge instead of the microwave is often done here!

pita Fri 20-Sep-19 10:15:23

#Tanith you made me chuckle, ty

Yesterday I was in a rush before going out. When I got back I opened the fridge for a drink and saw my dish sponge on the shelf, I looked across the room and there .was the butter sat next to the sink! ??

I frequently forget what car I am driving, have tried getting into a big 4 X 4, actually rattling the handle and getting cross because the door wouldn't open.............unfortunately it was the same make and model as Mr.Gravys but not his car ??

henetha Fri 20-Sep-19 10:19:38

I forgot to put the boot lid down on my little hatchback
and drove over 5 miles until I realised it. I thought it felt draughty!

I shall never forget how I put a paper bag of tomatoes I'd just bought on the roof of my car while I searched my handbag for the car keys. Yep. You guessed it. I checked my rear view mirror as I drove down the road and there was this cascade of tomatoes following me. And no. I didn't go back to pick them up, Oh the shame of it...

I went for lunch at a pub with my DD and DGD in quite a busy shopping area. We parked in the pub car park, had lunch, came out about an hour and a half later to find that we'd left the car keys on the roof of the car!

Pantglas2 Fri 20-Sep-19 10:31:39

Day after I got my bus pass I used it to go shopping in Llandudno. Had a lovely time in M&S then spent an hour wandering up and down Mostyn Street trying to remember where I’d parked the car......

BradfordLass72 Fri 20-Sep-19 10:31:41

Oh tanith thanks for sharing your rubber fetish with us grin

B9exchange Fri 20-Sep-19 10:35:59

Tanith you are making me wonder why your spell checker would default to 'fetish' do you use that word a lot? grin grin

My mother once liberally sprinkled washing up liquid over the chicken instead of salt....

It's not just an age thing. DD sometimes needs to drive my car with me as passenger. Her wipers and indicators are on the opposite sides to mine. We often go round corners with the wipers going.

kittylester Fri 20-Sep-19 10:44:40

My car has push button starting but it didnt start at all no matter how many times I pushed the button. Took a while to remember I was in DH's car and pushing the rear windscreen heater button. blush

55 years ago this one. Sent down to the village from the factory where I was working to post an urgent letter, I called in to a shop to buy a small packet of tissues as I felt a cold coming. Half way back up the steep hill to work I realised I still had the letter in my hand. I had posted the tissues.

There have been so many daft moments in the last 20 years that a week without one is rare. Last week it was doing the school run in odd sandals.

On Wednesday I took flowers to my Father's grave. It was only when I got there that I realised I had left the bag containing scissors, water bottles, cleaning cloth and gloves sitting on the garage floor - I had remembered the flowers!

paddyann Fri 20-Sep-19 10:52:56

stood in a queue to collect a gift from an employer and when he asked my name I had to ask the girl behind me in the queue what my name was.I was only young so its not an age thing with me I've always been this way
.Took a cheese pudding out of the oven and walked straight to the bin and dropped it in ...I was 12 ,the people waiting for their cheese pudding supper were not amused .My excuse is I'm always so busy I dont know what day of the week it is

geekesse Fri 20-Sep-19 10:58:03

I registered one of my kids at school with the wrong date of birth. I ought to have remembered - I was there, after all....

BlueSapphire Fri 20-Sep-19 10:58:58

Couldn't find the Avon catalogue, searched high and low - found it in the freezer. Also have been known to carefully chop veggies and then chuck the whole lot into the food waste caddy along with the peelings.

KatyK Fri 20-Sep-19 11:00:37

I once out bicarbonate of soda in my home made cakes instead of baking powder. Yuk.
