Does anyone have this M and S down coat? Was going to order it online for a daughter, but some of the reviews are not too good - dodgy zip / leaks white feathers. Just wondered whether to risk it (have a 20% off code smile )

Saw this coat in M&S just this morning, as I am looking for a new padded jacket.Thought the material looked cheap and nasty and as if it would catch or tear easily.

Check whether the down is ethically-sourced. Some poor birds have the feathers ripped off them repeatedly. sad

Oh, thanks, lemongrove, that’s useful. Might have to look elsewhere.

M and S say this SueDonim.

Debenhams have a good choice of padded coats and it’s a 20% off day, if that helps.

I have just bought an M&S padded coat in purple for £45 and it is good for the price. I have a down one which is longer from Rohan and that is very warm and comfortable but was more expensive.

I bought a down coat on the sale from Regatta last year. Absolutely lovely and toasty warm

Thanks, folks - might give the M and S one a miss. Going somewhere tomorrow where there’s a Mountain Warehouse......

That's good re ethical sourcing, Lisagran. I had no idea such a horror existed until just a few years ago. sad

My Mum accidentally bought one of the coats and it shed lots of feathers - her car seat was covered.
My Mum had bought the coat not realising it was real feathers which she is allergic to, she was very poorly for over a week afterwards.
M&S were very good about it - they refunded her for the coat when I took it back.

I have this coat or similar , which I bought brand new on ebay for nearly half price.

There is a site called, Hightstreetoutlet, who are also selling it for £45.
I'm not sure if it is the same one.
The feathers do leak a wee bit, but I love it. It is so light, yet warm.

I think this is the coat I bought a couple of months ago. I wore it daily and was very light and comfortable and would recommend for spring/autumn. I had no leakage. It isn't warm enough for winter. They have other down coats which are warmer.

A lot of the reviews said that Magpie1959 - seats covered in feathers - not a good selling point! Glad your mum got her money back.
That’s not the same coat, Marydoll, but thanks for the link - I shall enjoy looking on there!
Thanks, GrandmaMoira - I think she’ll need a warmer one.

As well as liking weight with my bedclothes I also like to feel the weight of a good coat, but sadly there don't seem to be any which spell quality. I like to feel that I'm wearing an outer garment, not something featherlight. Sheepskin for me.

I have a similar one from Uniqlo and it's brilliant, very light and very warm. Might have cost a bit more than the MandS one, though. I think it was £75 but worth every penny.
